Obituary of Della May Guenther

Della May Guenther, age 91, of Swift Current, Saskatchewan passed away September 27, 2022 at her home in Swift Current with family by her side. Della was born in Manville Alberta May 5, 1931.

She is survived by her four children Donna (Dave) Pylypow, Leslie (Bev) Maxwell, Linden (Eunice) Maxwell and Heather (Cal) Koellmel and Allen’s Family, Terry (Donna) Guenther, Neil (Karen) Guenther, Bonnie Guenther (Dave) and Ross (Gwen) Guenther. Also survived by 17 Grandchildren, 23 great Grandchildren and her sister Grace Crown.

Her family moved from Manville, Alberta to Armstrong, British Columbia in 1946. In 1950 she married Melbourne Maxwell and together they had four children.  Melbourne passed away in 1960 leaving Della to raise her four children. Della, who hadn’t ever gotten a driver’s license, was soon driving with help from a friend and nothing was going to stop her from taking care of her family.

Della took evening classes to learn typing and secretarial skills and in 1967 she landed a job with the Swift Current Nursing Home and moved to Swift Current, Saskatchewan with her family.         

While working, she met the love of her life, Allen Guenther. They married in 1990 after a short courtship. Together they had a wonderful life, spending summers at their cottage on Lac Pelletier and traveling.

She loved her Family so much and couldn’t stand the thought of leaving! She will be greatly missed!

A celebration of life service will be held on Tuesday, October 4, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. at Parkside Memorial Funeral Home.  Arrangements are in care of Parkside Memorial Funeral Home – Ryan Cappelle & Hayden Cappelle.

There will be refreshments and time to share memories with the family at the residence of Ellie MacKay following the interment service.

Donations in memory of Della can be made to the Dr. Noble Irwin Health Care Foundation.
