Obituary of Harvey David Vogt

Please share a memory of Harvey to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

VOGT - Harvey David, age 72 passed away peacefully at The Meadows long term care facility in Swift Current, SK on April 27th, 2023, surrounded by family.

Born March 26th, 1951, to Cornelius and Helen Vogt, Harvey was the second oldest of 8 children. He grew up on the farm near Glen Kerr, SK, where he was instilled with a love of farming, animals, and the country life. Harvey was married to Margaret Funk, on March 24th, 1972, and was the father to two daughters, Cheryl and Tracy.

Harvey worked many years as a road builder for the R.M.of Morse, driving the “euke”, aptly named “Harv’s Grasshopper”. In his years with the R.M., Harvey made many close, life-time friends. Working close to home, afforded him to treat his family to week long stays at Rolling Plains Lake during the summer. This was where he taught his children a love for being in the water and spending time outdoors. Many hours and late nights were spent with family and friends around the fire, playing guitar and singing Johnny Cash songs. He also very much enjoyed attending and being part of the annual Elm Grove Rodeo. He enjoyed horseback riding, hunting, working on his truck on weekends, and spending time with friends. In the years following his accident, he became a strong asset for Sask Abilities where he carried over his strong work ethic, winning a couple of awards. He also developed an affinity for playing cards, especially cribbage, and working through many, many word search books.

Harvey is predeceased by his parents, Cornelius and Helen Vogt; his brother-in-law, Doug Thomson, and several close cousins. He is survived by his two daughters, Cheryl (Steve) Howden and Tracy (Wendell) Cornelson; four grandchildren, Ryan (Emily) Cornelson, Tyler (Morgan) Cornelson, Cody (Alexis) Cornelson, Breanna (Matthew McLaughlin) Howden; four great-children Brett and Jacob Thornitt-Cornelson, Tanner and Brooklynn Cornelson; siblings, Florence (Albert) Woelk, Doreen (James) Kozan, Sharon (Melvin) Nickel, Carol (Vincent) Yoner, Marlene (Ken Fahlman) Thomson, Rhonda (Jeffrey) Heinrichs, and Kelly Vogt; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Harvey will be remembered for his unique laugh and incredulous sense of humour. If you needed to hear a bad “dad” joke, he was your guy.

We would like to especially thank all the wonderful care workers, who over the years cared for Harvey. You were a big part of his life. Enough truly can’t be said.

He will be missed. <3
