Obituary of Edna May Stock

Please share a memory of Edna to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Edna 'May' Stock (nee McCrimmon) of Tompkins SK passed away on April 12, 2023 at Cypress Regional Hospital with her family by her side.  She was 80 years old.

May was born on January 11, 1943 in Meadow Lake SK to Howard and Esther McCrimmon.  She was the third of five children.  May grew up on the family farm, attending Carpenter High School in Meadow Lake and later earned her Certificate in Nutrition from Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Technology in Saskatoon.

May met John at a dance in Meadow Lake while he was teaching in Dorintosh SK and they were married on August 17, 1968.  They chose to make their home on the ranch north of Tompkins on the edge of the sandhills.  May and John were blessed with the birth of 3 sons, Wade in 1969, Craig in 1972 and Devin in 1976.

Family was May's top priority.  She lovingly milked cows, tended the sheep, made a home, cared for, cooked, baked and sewed for John and her boys and later for her daughter-in-laws and grandchildren.  Having her family together always brought May great joy.

May had a great passion for sewing, be it sewing clothes for her family and friends, sewing gifts, embroidery work, quilting or patching many pants for her busy boys.  She shared this passion with many friends and fellow quilters, belonging to the local community quilting group and making quilts for community members with cancer or who were ill.  Many children who attended the local school also received a quilt made by May and the quilting group.  Spending the day creating new sewing projects with her grand-daughters, and sometimes her grandsons, was a day very well spent.

Other hobbies May enjoyed were knitting including the Veteran Sock Project, baking, golfing and playing cards.  She was always eager to play a game of crib with her grandchildren or host a card party for the neighbours.  She was also an avid curler and spectator.

May enjoyed entertaining family and friends and had a great talent for quickly pulling together a grand feast from the simple contents of her pantry and freezers.  She always had time to sit with a friend and chat over a cup of tea or whenever needed, lend a helping hand always with a smile and her sense of humour.  She touched the lives of all who knew her.

May is survived by her husband John, her sons Wade (Nancy), Craig (Cheryl) and Devin and seven grandchildren (Taryn, Ian, Colin, Nathan and Aaron and Emily and Eric), her sister Betty (Cyril) Ayers and brother Donald (Donna), sister-in-law Elizabeth McCrimmon and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents Howard and Esther, siblings Malcolm and Jean, brother-in-law David Gosling, sister-in-law Suzanne McCrimmon, nephews Stuart McCrimmon and Kevin Ayers and niece Gayle McCrimmon.

A celebration of life will be held on April 29, 2023 at the Tompkins Community Hall.  A private internment with immediate family will take place at Tompkins Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Maple Creek & District Opportunities Centre in  memory of May - P.O. Box 1346, Maple Creek SK S0N 1N0.

The family would like to thank the staff at Cypress Regional Hospital for the care May received during her stay.
