Obituary of Martha Weinbender

Please share a memory of Martha to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Martha Weinbender, age 95, of Swift Current passed away at the Meadows on February 24, 2023. Martha was born the 2nd of 4 children to George and Katharina Wunsch in the district of Hodgeville on January 15, 1928. She grew up on the farm and met and married the love of her life, Jack in 1944. Jack and Martha loved music and would travel from the farm to Moose Jaw to play guitar and sing on the radio station CHAB. They were also very good dancers and loved going to any local dances together.

Jack and Martha started raising their family of 7 children, while farming in the Uren and Morse area until moving to Swift Current in 1974.  Once living in Swift Current, she took a job working at the Met which she enjoyed. She loved people and soon had made many friends at work. In her youth she loved playing softball and after moving to the city she soon became an avid bowler, winning many trophies. Martha had many hobbies such as; gardening, crocheting, playing cards, reading, baking and volunteering for the Swift Current SPCA.  She was the glue of the family, making everyone happy with her cooking and baking. She loved to have friends over to play cards and you never left her house hungry. Martha loved to spoil her grandchildren and many pets over the years. Martha was quick with a smile for everyone. She loved to laugh and spend time with friends. When asked if she would change anything in her life she said she wouldn’t change a thing. She felt blessed with her family and friends and we feel blessed to have had her. She was simply the best!

She is survived by her children George (Gail), Ron (Karen), Les (Phyllis), Doreen, Dianna (Michael), Terry and Melanie (John), 12 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Sister-in-laws Judy Wunsch and Michelle Weinbender and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Jack in 2007 and granddaughter Lacy in 2008. As well as sisters Molly and Ann and her brother Bill.

We ask that you celebrate her life with us on Saturday March 4th at 2pm, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church. In her honor, please feel free to dress in one of her favourite colours of Red or Purple, or a colour of choice.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Swift Current SPCA or St. Olaf Lutheran Church.  The family would like to thank the staff at the Gull Lake Special Care Home and the Meadows Longterm Care Facility for taking such good care of our mom.
