Obituary of Rose Poh
POH – Rose Harriet (nee Nichol) March 1, 1929 – November 23, 2022. Rose was 93 years young and a resident of Swift Current, formerly of Ernfold, SK. She passed away at the Cypress Regional Hospital with her family at her side. She leaves behind her 4 children, Pat Dahlgren, Don (Corrie), Gerald (Cheryl) and Joan as well as 11 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, 16 great-great grandchildren and 2 great-great great grandchildren as well as 1 on the way. She also has many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Sam (2002), daughter Betty Lou (infancy), granddaughter Amber (2017) and all of Sam’s siblings and their spouses and her 14 brothers, sisters and their spouses.
Rose grew up on a homestead 1 mile west of Maxstone, SK with 14 brothers and sisters. She learned at an early age that hard work was essential on the farm and with 14 siblings there was always lots of fun times while they were working or at play. She left home at an early age to work in a café in Hodgeville, SK where she met Sam Poh who was a young soldier who had returned home from serving overseas in the war. Rose and Sam were married on June 24, 1949 in Hodgeville. They later moved to Ernfold in 1954.
Rose had a green thumb and always grew a large garden and asparagus was her specialty. She was a good cook and baker with cinnamon buns being a favourite of many. She did not like chocolate but would always have a drawer full incase the grandchildren came to visit.
Rose enjoyed visits, fridge art, and pictures from all the little people in her life. Most of all she looked forward to visits from Gerald & Cheryl’s miniature daschund Bridget. Rose moved into the Meadows in 2018, where she resided until her passing.
At Rose’s request there will be a private family burial service for her at the Ernfold Cemetery where she will be laid to rest beside her husband Sam. There will be a memorial service for her in the spring when the Crocuses start to come up as Rose does not want people to have to travel in bad weather.
The family would like to thank Dr. Lee, the nurses and CCA’s in house 18 at the Meadows Long Term Care Facility plus Dr. Desai, the nurses & CCA’s in unit 3 for being such a great help during Rose’s journey. Funeral arrangements are in care of Parkside Memorial Funeral Home – Ryan Cappelle & Hayden Cappelle.
