Obituary of Lory Dorothy Dombrowsky
DOMBROWSKY, LORY: January 27,1932 – November 16, 2022
Lory Dorothy Dombrowsky (nee Krahn) passed away peacefully in her home at The Meadows in Swift Current after 6 difficult years with Parkinson’s disease.
She became a Christian early in her life and was baptized in the Herbert MB Church in 1947. Her faith was her firm foundation. She prayed for her family, friends, and world problems. Reading her Bible and the words to hymns encouraged her. She missed attending church services when she lost her mobility.
Over the past months mom and I talked about her best days. She absolutely loved farm life, especially harvest when she would drive the grain truck. She loved her cats. She loved hanging laundry on a breezy day. She loved pitching balls for her sons to hit. She loved to watch curling and baseball.
Singing and choir were important. On our last visit she sang along in harmony with her favorite hymns, remembering the words.
She was a good student at the Reed Valley and Los Angeles Schools, north of Herbert. and stayed in touch with schoolmates. She enjoyed Herbert Days reunions and after moving to Swift Current in 1993 seldom missed a School Coffee Morning at Tim’s.
She attended Business College in Moose Jaw after high school and those classes stood her in good stead as she helped with farm accounts and volunteered with LANCC (Ladies Auxiliary and Neidpath Community Club), Herbert Hospital Auxiliary and as president and treasurer of her condo association. She also enjoyed volunteering at the Swift Current MCC Store.
The best day of her life was October 24,1954 when she married Victor Dombrowsky She left a note saying they shared joys, sorrows, work and pleasures for 48 years.
On the farm they enjoyed a close group of friends and neighbors; the coffee pot was always on!
In 1990 she began work at the Herbert Group Home which brought her much joy.
In 2011 her brother Ken and his wife Alice moved to Herbert. Mom was grateful to have family close by and they helped her with so much.
She was predeceased by her husband, Vic, and brothers Ervin (Gloria), Jake (Linda), and Lawrence (Lois) and Ross’ wife Nancy.
She leaves her brother Ken (Alice), her children Brenda (Wes) Dick, Ross, and Lyle (Jennifer), 6 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
We are grateful to the staff at the House 15 of The Meadows in Swift Current Hospital for their caring service during mom’s six year stay.
A family graveside service will be held at Herbert Cemetery on a later date. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the M.C.C Saskatchewan.
Arrangements are in the care of Parkside Memorial Funeral Home - Ryan Cappelle and Hayden Cappelle
