Also survived by a brother Jack (Joan) DeMars, numerous nieces and nephews including a special niece Debbie Quintin and special great niece Tayler Hall who spent many hours with her during her last months.
Mom was born at Webb July 24, 1931. She was predeceased by her husband of 48 years Laurent, parents Ronald and Anna Demars, parents in law Eugene and Armancia Quintin, and several brothers and sisters in law. With the exception of a few years after she married Laurent, mom lived the majority of her life in the Webb, Gull Lake and Swift Current areas.
Mom was trained as a school teacher spending the bulk of her career at the Webb and Gull Lake Schools. Mom and Dad retired together in 1987 in Gull Lake. They spent the first few years of retirement travelling with their new motorhome as snow birds. When Dad’s health began to fail Mom dedicated her time and energy to care for him until his passing.
Mom loved to play cards, listen and sing along to old time music. Bridge, whist and cribbage were her favorites and she enjoyed the weekly bridge game parties. Mom volunteered for many activities and organizations in retirement. She was a member of the CWL, Royal Purple, and Red Hat Societies, meals on wheels and seniors community taxi. As a member of the Auxiliary, she participated in development of the courtyard at the Gull Lake Special Care Home. Mom regularly attended St Anne Catholic church in Gull Lake, participating as scripture reader during mass and a member of the church choir.
Family and friends remember Mom as a classy lady. She was pleasant and kind in her interactions with others. Often referred to as “my grade four teacher” by younger residents of the community, Mom is fondly remembered. Mom lived a full and long life but she is in a better place now. Our “Classy Lady“ will be missed.
A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, November 5, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Anne's Roman Catholic Parish with Deacon David Hagel officiating. Donations can be made in memory of Shirley to the Gull Lake Special Care Home Axiliary Box 539 Gull Lake, SK. S0N 1A0
