Obituary of Judy Bak
BAK – BORGNY, affectionally known as Judy by her family and friends, born September 10, 1923, went home to be with her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ October 19, 2022, at the Cypress Regional Hospital, at the age of 99. Mom came from Norway to Canada with her family in 1925, with her parents Martin and Ingeborg Hess and 3 sisters and 1 brother. They settled in Saskatchewan, north of Webb, on their uncle’s farm. At 17 she went to Business School in Winnipeg, worked, and then went to Vancouver. She dated Jim Bak (a soldier) while there. She returned to the farm to help her mother who was not well. Then she moved to Swift Current to work. Again, Mom dated Jim Bak (our dad) who had returned to Swift Current after the war. They got married in 1946. They had 4 daughters; Cheryl, Trudy, Debbie and Barb. Mom and Dad were devastated when Trudy, 12 years old, was dying with cancer. After hearing the wonderful message of salvation, Mom gave her heart to the Lord. Now Trudy was in terrible pain and Mom cried out to God in desperation. “If You are really real You will show Yourself to me.” In a blinding light Jesus appeared and told her Bob Larden would help her. He was the Pastor of the Full Gospel Church. He helped them both. Trudy also gave her heart to the Lord and she told her friends about Jesus before she passed away. Seventeen years later Jim had 2 heart attacks and he accepted the Lord as Saviour. People saw a big change in Dad. Over the years Mom has had many wonderful experiences with the Lord in her prayer and praise time. She and her friend had a visitation from an angel. Mom was so honored to help the Lord through the Christian Women’s ministry, Women’s Aglow, 100 Huntley St. counselling center, and teaching Sunday School. She also gave her testimony as a guest speaker at Women’s Aglow meetings throughout the area. Predeceased by her husband Jim Bak in 1995; her parents Martin and Ingeborg Hess; 4 sisters, Agnes Batham, Clara Martelli, Marie MacDonald, baby Margaret; brother Gunnar Hess; daughter Trudy Bak; and a child by miscarriage. She is survived by daughters, Cheryl (Bert) Turner; Debbie (Dan) Marconescu; Barb (Rick) Wengel; 6 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Mom was such a joyful person, fun to be around, wise and loved by many people. She loved to bake and was very hospitable. She loved gardening and plants and animals. She also had great empathy for people. Many people would phone for her to pray for them. Family was very important to her. She spent many hours praying for family and others. Her life’s desire was to reach people for Christ and for Him to get the glory. “For me to live is Christ and to die is gain. Philippians 1:21” was a favorite verse. Donations can be made to Samaritan’s Purse.
