Obituary of Ruby Wengel
Ruby Evelyn Wengel (nee Heron) of Stewart Valley SK, passed away peacefully at the age of 93 on October 7, 2022 at Riverview Estates in Swift Current.
Ruby was born at the Cabri Union Hospital in Cabri SK on January 21, 1929. She was the 7th child of the 9 children born to Fredrick and Lulia Heron.
Ruby is survived by her children, Maureen (Jim) Lowe, Cheryl (Neil) Earl, Randall (Leslie) Wengel, Richard (Barbara) Wengel, Anita (Dan) Penna, Brian (Lisa) Wengel, 16 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, and her sister, Edith Thomas.
Ruby was raised in Cabri and went to Teachers College in Moose Jaw SK. She taught school at Beaver Flats for two years. Ruby met the love of her life Ernest Wengel in 1946 and married him on July 20, 1949. They lived on the farm by Stewart Valley for 66 years until 2017. She moved into Stewart Valley where she lived for four years. In 2021 she moved into Riverview Estates in Swift Current.

Gardening…she won many awards at horticultural shows, loving her roses the best, Hospitality…she was a gracious host with family or friends, always welcomed into her home,Ladies Aide…sewing quilts and clothing and serving community events, 4H Club, Member of Bethel Prairie Church and St. Olaf Lutheran Church, She was #1 Saskatchewan Roughrider Fan!!
Ruby had a great sense of humour, a strong character revealed by the fact that she lived on the family farm alone until the age of 89. She left a legacy of hard work, faith in God and love of family. After a good long life she was ready to go home to be with her Lord Jesus Christ and to her love, Ernest Wengel.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Olaf Lutheran Church with Rev. Dr. Greg Kiel officiating. The interment will take place at Bethel Prairie Cemetery in the Stewart Valley district.
