KNUDSEN - Sarah (2001-2022)

Sarah Elizabeth Knudsen went to Heaven on Wednesday, June 8th, 2022. She was born on June 2nd, 2001, in Regina, SK, to parents Rodney and Martie Knudsen. She was born with a rare condition called Angelman Syndrome. She lived in Swift Current, SK for all her life.

Sarah touched more lives in her 21 years than most of us could ever dream to. You only had to meet her for a moment to know that she was sent by God to change the world with her unfailing joy, and her unconditional love. While the rest of us cry over spilled milk, Sarah would laugh herself inside out, unruffled by the things that would bother others. Though she had many medical and physical challenges, she was a fighter. She overcame so much and her joy never ceased. She especially loved laughing when someone accidentally dropped anything like their keys, or their spoon off a table. She gave life so much colour in things that would normally seem grey.

Sarah started school at Oman Elementary. She also went to Fairview Middle School, and graduated from the Swift Current Comprehensive High School in June 2020. She was deeply loved by all the teachers, staff, and her fellow students. She brought unforgettable moments to her class, especially when she reached over and pulled down her teacher’s pants!

During her childhood, Sarah’s mom and family friend championed for a group home that would care for Sarah and other children who needed 24/7 exceptional care. At that time, there was only help available for adults with disabilities. In 2008, the Saskatchewan Premier created a group home especially for Sarah, and more children followed soon after. The new group home was called “Angel House” in honour of Sarah, under the umbrella of Southwest Homes. It greatly impacted not only Sarah and her family, but the lives of all those who lived there. Sarah’s family grew in leaps and bounds as she loved every one of her respite workers and they deeply loved her.

Sarah will be greatly missed by the outstanding multitude of her friends and family. She won the race and beat her family to Heaven, including her parents, Rod and Martie Knudsen; her sisters Heidi Faith Knudsen and Prairie Drescher; her grandparents Kenny and Maxine Knudsen, John and Susan Klassen, as well as all her extended family, with the exception of her Uncle David.

Sarah loved Jesus, music, long drives and motorbike rides, looking out the window, watching the train, play-wrestling, a good thrill, and food, food, and more food. She lived a full happy life filled with love.
