Obituary of Shirley Ann Faber

Please share a memory of Shirley to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Shirley Ann Faber was born July 11, 1945 in Simmie, SK to Colin (Bud) and Hannah Campbell. Her family moved to Beverly, SK and she was one of eight children; Colleen, Gord, Darlene, Shirley, Garth, Don, Dianne and Bev.

Shirley married Larry Faber from Cantuar, SK in 1964. They raised their family on a mixed farm, with two daughters and two sons; Lorrie (Darwin) Plewis, Stephanie (Jeff) Kratchmer, Chad and Craig Faber. Shirley had eight grandchildren; Dallas Plewis, Daylon (Jordie) Plewis, Darby Gerlach, Devon and Terra Ransom, Brenda, Donna and Jerrett Faber-Peciak. She also had five great grandchildren; Kylie and Janelle Plewis, Avery Plewis, Sophia Faber-Peciak and Audrina Ransom.

Shirley was predeceased by her husband Larry, her son Chad, her parents Bud and Hannah Campbell, her in-laws Chris and Vicky Faber, her brother Garth Campbell, her brothers in-law Jim Woolsey, Jerry Smailes, Lawrence Cassidy and Ken Hymers.

Shirley was a classy lady, with a hard work ethic, integrity, a caring heart and hospitality. She took pride in her home and yard, spending many hours painting buildings, fences and restoring antique yard artifacts.

In her earlier years she worked along side Larry helping with the cattle, pigs, bringing meals to the field etc. Shirley was an excellent cook and loved to set up the dining room table to entertain family and friends. She was also a great host and had a lot of family and friends stay with them over the years. It was a common occurrence for Shirley to bring cookies and small gifts for people who were in the hospital or long term care, and would invite bachelors and widows over for meals.

In her earlier years, Shirley enjoyed going to dances with Larry and visiting the neighbours. She was also an active member of the Cantuar ladies Busy Bee Club, who hosted fall suppers, dances, wedding showers and anniversary celebrations etc.

Shirley never missed any of her children’s sporting events, school concerts or graduations and continued to attend as many of her grandchildren’s events as she could. Those that didn’t live here, Shirley and Larry would go visit as often as they were able.

A highlight for both Shirley and Larry was the many spontaneous day trips they took all over SK. They also took many trips to AB, BC and ONT to see family, which they always looked forward to.

They did some travelling abroad as well; with a trip to Disneyland with their kids, a cruise for their 25th anniversary, a trip to Mexico and Cuba, two trips to Denmark to see family and many camping trips.

In 2016, Shirley was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease. Larry and Shirley moved into a condo in Swift Current when Larry was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2018, so Shirley would be in town once Larry passed away and as the Alzheimer’s disease progressed.

Shirley really liked her condo and enjoyed living at Riverview Estates, visiting with the other residents, going for meals and listening to the weekly live music.

Recently Shirley was diagnosed with bowel cancer. On Feb 16, 2022 at 76 years of age, Shirley passed away peacefully at her home, as she wished, with her children by her side. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society or Cystic Fibrosis, a cause dear to her heart.
