COTE - Shirley Marie - December 26, 1936 – January 18, 2022

It is with sad hearts the family of Shirley Marie Cote announce the passing of our precious Mom on January 18, 2022. Mom was born in Gravelbourg, Saskatchewan to Remy and Dora Boutin and grew up in Cadillac, Saskatchewan with her five brothers Roy, Ivan, Donald, Swede, Bill and sister Helen. The little red-headed girl was a joy to her musical family who realized her musical talents and beautiful singing voice early on, so voice and piano lessons started. She received her grade 8 in voice and grade 5 in piano. Mom’s singing was a joy to listen to and it gave her great happiness to sing for others. She sang at many weddings and funerals; she also sang in the church choirs and other choir groups over the years.

Mom married our Dad (Roger) on October 27, 1954 and they made their home on the farm west of Cadillac where they raised their seven children. Mom was an amazing mother and homemaker. She loved gardening and always grew a massive garden. She took a hair cutting course so she could cut everyone’s hair, nobody ever went to the barber or hair stylist. As we grew up, she started a successful business with Mary Kay, she was also an active member of the Catholic Women’s League of Canada for over 60 years. Mom and Dad lived on the farm until 2001, when they moved to Swift Current where Mom loved to spend her time at the swimming pool and making crafts (especially her beaded angels) we will always treasure. In 2010, Medicine Hat, Alberta became their next home where they enjoyed their later years meeting and gathering with old and new friends at coffee. Mom lost her precious Roger on August 8, 2020 and moved back to Swift Current in December of 2020.

Mom was known for her delicious baking, especially her Spudnuts (doughnots), dough devils and cinnamon buns, she always had a freezer full of baking out in the veranda at the farm. We all loved to gather for her Christmas and Easter meals, she was an excellent cook! Her Grandchildren will always remember her amazing hugs and how she had to steal a kiss on both cheeks. Mom loved each and everyone of her 50+ family members unconditionally. She was truly a kind, compassionate, giving person who was always ready to help others.

Mom is survived by her children Yolande Boyko (Doug), Norman Cote (Brenda), Roland Cote (Connie), Vivian Wolfater (Raymond), John Cote (Cheryl), Albert Cote (Betty), her brother Bill Boutin (Rosemary), many grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and great friends.

She is now with her Roger, her daughter Theresa and grandson Jason. Many other family and friends have passed before Mom, she is with them now.

Goodbye Mom, until we meet again.

Love your Family
