Obituary of Mary Cornelson

CORNELSON – Mary (Funk) was born on April 11, 1929 in Herbert, SK.  Mary is survived by her 2 daughters, Debra (Lyle), Shirley (Alvin); grandchildren Stacey Schmidt, Mike Schmidt, Sharleen Thoreson, Lanette Thoreson; great-grandchildren Cassidy Todd, Jordan Schmidt, Cody Schmidt, and Tehya Schmidt as well as her two sisters Betty and Irene.  She is predeceased by her parents Peter D. and Mary Funk; her husband Victor Cornelson; sisters Linda and Hilda; brother Pete and son-in-law Richard Schmidt.  Mary started her work career at the age of 16 in Moose Jaw, then back to Herbert.  Mary and Vic were married in Herbert and lived there until 1996 when they moved to Swift Current.  She continued to work at the Co-op, Woolworths and Swift Current Union Hospital.  Mary was a life-time member of the Royal Canadian Legion were she enjoyed socializing and helping work the banquets.  Mary enjoyed cooking, canning and making sure her house was spotlessly clean.  Mary loved the card game Canasta and spent many hours trying to beat the opposition.  A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 23, 2021 at Parkside Memorial Funeral Home.  The interment will take place at Hillcrest Cemetery, Swift Current, SK.  In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the charity of the donor’s choice in memory of Mary.  Arrangements are in care of Parkside Memorial Funeral Home – Ryan Cappelle & Hayden Cappelle.
