Obituary of Peter Hamm

HAMM - Peter W. was born April 20, 1929.  He passed away on Friday, October 1, 2021 at the Shaunavon Care Centre in Shaunavon, SK.  Peter was pre-deceased by his parents Peter H. and Susanna Hamm; siblings Katherine, Jake, Dietrich, Nettie and Susan.  Left to mourn his passing is wife, Mary Hamm, children; Marcia (Tim), Robert (Marie), Don (Jackie); grandchildren, Guthrey (June), Girti, Sunday (Noah), Joe, Jude, Lucy, Elly, Quinn, Elizabeth and Ethan and great grandchild Zephyr (born one day after his passing).  Pete was born in Glen Kerr, SK the fourth child in a family of 10.  After leaving home at age 14 his various types of work took him all around the prairies.  A turning point came in his life at 31 years old when he realized his need of a Saviour and believed on the Lord Jesus Christ. In his own words at the hospital on August 23, Dad explained “I got to the point in my life that I didn’t know which way to turn.  There was other people that went to Bible School, so I went for a winter…. And then my life changed."  After the winter at Swift Current Bible Institute in 1961, Dad went to work as a cook at the Rosthern Youth Farm where he then met Mary Voth. They were married in 1963.  He worked as a cook for most of his working life. He was qualified at the journeyman level and was famous for his potato salad and borscht.  Dad always enjoyed fishing and camping.  He completed numerous building projects, tinkered on old motors, and loved working in the garden.  Pete believed in helping out in the community and had many years of service at the community rink in Herbert, Camp Elim at Lac Pelletier, and the Swift Current MCC store.  A funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 7, 2021 at Parkside Memorial Funeral Home.  The interment will take place at Hillcrest Cemetery, Swift Current, SK.  Donations in memory of Peter can be made to the MCC.  Funeral arrangements are in care of Parkside Memorial Funeral Home – Ryan Cappelle & Hayden Cappelle.
