MAYER – Leona (nee Thiessen) passed away peacefully with her family by her side to be with her Heavenly Father on January 19, 2016, within days of her 95th birthday. Leona will be lovingly remembered by her children, Walter (Audrey), Renetta (Harold), Arlene, Del (Lauri), 7 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, brother Pete, Norman (Ileine), sisters Tina, Eleanor, sister-in-law Anita and numerous nephews, nieces and friends. She was predeceased by her first husband Edmund Biech, her second husband Clarence Mayer, her parents Abraham and Marie Thiessen and two brothers, Henry and Leonard, sisters-in-law Lydia and Lillian, brothers-in-law Wally Thiessen and Norman Geortzen. Leona was born in the Herbert area, attended Wiebe School, farmed in the Herbert area, worked and lived in Herbert, Swift Current, Moose Jaw and recently resided at Pioneer Village in Regina. A big part of Leona’s life was being involved with her church and participating in bible studies and church activities. She made many friends through her church community and her faith gave her great comfort as her health deteriorated. She loved to read, embroider, crochet and listen to Christian music. She sewed much of her own clothing and her children’s clothing and instilled the skill in her two daughters. The family would like to thank the staff at Pioneer Village for caring for Mom during the last five years. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Gideon’s international.
