Obituary of Cecilia Peters

Please share a memory of Cecilia to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Our wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother Cecilia Jane Peters (Grout) passed away peacefully with her son and grandson at her side, at Cypress Regional Health Center on April 14, 2021.

Cecilia will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by her sons Alan, John (Maryanne) and Willie of Swift Current. Cecilia is survived by her grand children Tamie, Jennifer, David, Jody, Chris, Blaine, Nathan and Thomas and 10 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Margaret VanRompaey, brother-in-law, Grant Tait, sisters and brothers in law Deanne Peters, Margaret and Jake Knelson, Gertrude Peters, Jake Peters and many nieces and nephews.

Cecilia was predeceased by her parents Charlie and Marie Grout (Teichroeb), her loving husband Henry Peters, her sister Sarah Tait and beloved daughter Lisa.

Cecilia was born in Swift Current March 5, 1943 where she grew up and attended school. While attending Oman School in grade 8 she began a lifetime friendship through a pen-pal program with Christine King. It was during a trip with her mother to Manitoba to visit family that she fell in love with Henry, they were married on September 10, 1960. They began their married life in Swift Current where their son Alan was born in 1963 and thus began a lifetime of mothering skills. Their second son John was born in 1965 and daughter Lisa was born in 1970 with Willie following soon after in 1972. This completed their little family and Cecilia took her position as wife and mother to heart. During the raising of her children, she also spent much time caring for and spending time with her mother.

In 1986, Cecilia and Henry drove east across Canada to visit Cecilia’s family from her father’s side that had also come to Canada in Ontario and PEI from the UK. It was a big event for them to return the visit as the UK relatives had made numerous trips out west to visit them. The family worked together at the Pioneer Co-op bakery doing the janitorial work there for many years. The family fondly remembers that it was these years of working together that were memorable and even fun although it was work.

After 20 long years of losing contact with her pen-pal Christine, it was Christine’s son Greg that finally located Cecilia for his mom. Christine and her husband Chris flew from their home in the UK for a pen-pal reunion unlike any other. It was the first time in their lives after writing since they were young girls that they were able to meet in person. Cecilia and Henry returned the visit to the UK in 2006. Cecilia and Henry also made a trip to Mexico with friends and met a few distant relatives there as well.

Cecilia loved cooking and sharing her meals with family and friends. She always knew what their favorite Mennonite dish was and when she was cooking it, she would think of them and invite them over to enjoy good food and a visit. Her door was always open and coffee was always on. Among her favorite things to do was reminiscing, puzzling and visiting with friends and relatives. She was a very loving, generous and forgiving mother and mother figure to nieces and nephews.

Cecilia was in a loving relationship with her Lord and Savior from a young age throughout her lifetime and together with her husband. Her family is confident that she is happy in the arms of Jesus with her loving husband and beloved daughter.

Thank you and much love from the family to all who knew her and were touched by Cecilia in a beautiful way.
