STINSON – Floyd Leslie age 81 of Swift Current passed away suddenly on Saturday, January 30, 2016 at the Cypress Regional Hospital. Floyd was born on the family farm at Crichton, SK on March 22, 1934. He moved with his family to Swift Current in 1948. Floyd joined the work force at an early age and worked at a variety of occupations until he started at the Water Treatment Plant in 1967 and continued to work there until health issues forced him to retire in 1991. Floyd is survived by his loving wife, Irene (Schatkoski), of 56 years; daughters Karen (Boyd Schrader); and Charlene Norman; grandchildren: Chelsea Stinson, Kayla Gornick, Dolin Gornick, Sierra Norman and Aradyn Norman; sister-in-law, Gladys Stinson and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, James Alexander Stinson 1949; mother, Diantha Margaret (Redford) Stinson 1985; brothers Stanley 1979, Royce 1989, two brothers in infancy and sister Eileen Francis 2000; sister-in-law, Marie Stinson 1989; brother-in-law Fred Francis 1983 and son-in-law Robert Gornick 2012. Floyd enjoyed the outdoors and went on many fishing trips with family and friends. He also did some upland bird hunting with his father-in-law or friends. When he quit hunting and fishing he enjoyed the many birds at our feeders and also the deer that ate and rested in our backyard. He was also very handy and could fix almost anything or manufacture whatever he needed to solve the problem. He enjoyed welding, plumbing, electrical work, working with wood or just puttering with something in his shop. He enjoyed visiting with everyone, telling stories which quite often changed over time and could always throw in a joke or two when the opportunity arose. A private family graveside service was held on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Memory Gardens Cemetery with Pastor Brad Julien officiating. The urn bearer was Dolin Gornick. A reception for his family and friends was held at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church at 3:00 p.m.. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mount Calvary Lutheran Church Memorial Fund or to Swift Current S.P.C.A.
