Ruth Naomi Barr (nee Gallagher) was born at 54 Parker St, Winnipeg, MB on December 15, 1931. She was the 8th child born to Robert and Catherine Gallagher. Ruth is survived by her loving husband of 66 years and 10 months, William NEIL Barr, 3 children, 8 grandchildren, and 18 great grandchildren. Gail (Elwin) Hermanson; Ehren (Karen) Hermanson, Dahlia, Espen, Adrie, Olin; Byron (Lisa) Hermanson, Jayda, Aliyah; Marlyn (Ricardo) Bravo, Rio, Scarlet; Marilyn (Nathan) Simons; Cassandra, Nicky Simons; Rachel (Scott) Campbell, Kira Barkley, Leah Barkley, Lucas Campbell; Ted (Nancy) Barr; Priscilla (Greg) Baker, Elijah, Violet; Jordan (Jasmine) Barr, Josiah, Jayda; Rosalyn (Darin) Boudreau, Hudson, Dominik. Predeceased by both her parents and her brothers Mel, Doug, Robert, Fred, Bill Gallagher and sisters, Blanche Wright and Jean Metters and her grandson, Nate Simons. Ruth lived a full and happy life. Her father passed away when she was 8 years of age but she always said, that what her mother could not provide in material possessions, she made up by loving her unconditionally. Many of her nieces and nephews were her playmates. She loved sports. Swimming and running were her passions but she was a good ball player and a natural at most sports. She dreamed of competing in the Olympics. Every four years, she was glued to the TV coverage of the Olympics. She was fortunate enough to be gifted in many areas without formal training. She never studied music but blessed many with her strong alto voice, piano and accordion playing. She took up knitting at a young age and mastered the craft. We will all miss her dishcloths that we got as a gift on many occasions. Ruth loved her flower garden and like everything she did, she was enthusiastic and dedicated. She started working picking fruit in the Okanagan and worked in many different fields from the hospital in Eston, SK to her last job in the furniture complaint department in Eatons in Winnipeg before retiring to Swift Current. Although she finished school in Grade 8, she was a person of great wisdom. She attended the Full Gospel Bible Institute in Eston, SK receiving a 3 year diploma. It was at Bible School that she met, Dad and the precepts and wisdom gleaned in those years shaped her life. Together with Dad, they hosted and entertained many people far and wide. They were entertaining, loving and generous. Her favourite verse was Phil. 1:6 “ Being confident of this very thing that He which hath begun a good work in you, will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.” Mom struggled in the last few years and wanted to go home. She quietly slipped into the arms of Jesus, her Lord and Saviour on Wednesday, August 26. Ruth Barr’s lasting gift to family and friends was assuring us that we were loved both by her and Jesus.
