Obituary of Shirley Banman

Please share a memory of Shirley to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with great sadness that the family of Shirley Ann Banman announce her passing on January 19, 2020. Shirley was born on April 9, 1948 and lived her life in the Swift Current area, working diligently on her farm with her husband Jake Banman. She planted gardens and trees in magnificent proportion. She raised her children on the farm and enjoyed having everything she needed exactly where she was. Then, in July of 1993, she suffered a head injury in a motor vehicle accident and everything changed for her. This new life was one with so many different challenges that required the help of others, so she had to learn many new skills and accept a new reality. Rather than doing her own thing in her own space she took on the role of demonstrating how you continue, no matter what happens. She didn’t embrace this easily or quickly but, at the time of her death, it was apparent that she represented a powerful force of motivation and inspiration to her family, everyone who worked with her and those who visited. Shirley spent many years in The Palliser and more recently in The Meadows and the family wants to thank everyone who worked with Shirley over the years. The care and dedication that you have given to Shirley is so very much appreciated. Shirley has also had personal caregivers along the way and we want to express how very much you’ve been appreciated. You meant everything to our mom. Thank you Barb, Alicia, Rita, Marlene, Sandi, Dot, Joanne, Marie, Alice, Coralie, Pat and Esther. Known affectionately as “the ladies,” you enriched mom’s life every day and made a tremendous contribution to her well-being. Shirley is predeceased by her younger brother Johnny, and her parents John and Helen Martens. Shirley is survived by her ex-husband Jake, children Duane and Angela, as well as her grandson Rohith (Duane’s son), sister’s Rose and Olga (Steve) and nieces Christiana, Jessica (Jeremy), Sara, Lindsay and Lisa (Kent). A celebration of life service will be held on Monday, January 27, 2020 at 2:30 p.m. at The Meadows Long Term Care Facility Community Centre.
