Obituary of Ina Beatrice Dixon
DIXON – Ina Beatrice was born February 6, 1923, on the family farm near McAuley, MB. She was the seventh of eight children born to Harry Begg and Margaret (Baskerville) Begg. Ina passed away in Swift Current on Friday, November 22, 2019 at the age of 96. Ina attended the little country school in the Cherry Grove district, near McAuley and then Stanley School near Moosomin, SK. After school years, Mom worked in Virtue’s general store, and also took some responsibility for the care of her mother who was invalid in her 50’s. In her early twenties Mom moved to and worked in Ottawa as a bookkeeper. In 1948, Mom came back to Saskatchewan and married Roy Dixon. They farmed close to Rocanville until retiring in the seventies. They had three children, Elaine, Murray and Ken. Ina was predeceased by her husband Roy in 1991 and her son Murray in 2001; also by all her siblings: Lulu Hoffmann, Erma Whelpton, Bessie Sweet, Audrey Ferguson, Howard Begg, Stanley Begg and Melvin Begg. She is survived by her daughter Elaine (Glen) Wallace and their children; Drew (Ven), Erin (Derek), Heather (Mahmoud); daughter-in-law Lorna Kroeker, Murray’s children Robert (Lisa) and Melissa; and Ken (Charlene & Step-son Ryan). She is also survived by two great grandchildren; Joshua and Julia. Ina’s life was a full one; first as a farmer’s wife and mother, a member of St. Paul’s United Church where she was active in the Harmony Circle and singing in the choir. As time permitted, she turned her attention to those things she loved; sewing, quilting and gardening. Ina had a close bond with her sisters in Moosomin and also with much loved nieces and nephews. She also loved the sense of community she found in her neighborhood and church activities, then in later years her lodge friends. In 2013 Ina moved to Swift Current and lived with her daughter Elaine and Glen and later resided in the Meadows Longterm Care Facility for the past two years. She was a gentle and kind person and will be sadly missed. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 30, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Paul’s United Church in Rocanville, SK. The interment will take place at Sunset Gardens Cemetery, Moosomin, SK. Donations in memory of Ina can be made to St. Paul’s United Church 202 Pelly St. Rocanville, SK. S0A 3L0.
