Obituary of Robert Andrew Thomas

THOMAS – Robert Andrew passed away on September 10, 2018 at the Southwest Integrated Health Facility in Maple Creek, Sk.  He was born on October 13, 1955 in Gravelbourg, SK to James & Magdalena (Baumann) Thomas.  Robert is survived by his 5 brothers:  Jim (Sally), Bill (Chris) and children Michael (Tamia), Sydney (John); Dan (Deb) and children Corey, Samantha (Nick), Jacob, Luke (Amy, Elyse, Natalie, Riley); Perry (Denise) and children Shane (Allison), Jordan; Gary (Andy) as well as sister Marie (Dan Waechter) and children Lee (Melissa, Isabel, Awel, Pam (Aaron Kylie, Leah, Ella), Christie (Darcy, Emerie).  Robert was born on October 13, 1955.  He was born with down syndrome so he took his schooling in Assinaboia at the Guiding Light School.  WE would take him on Sunday evening to Assinaboia and then the other family brought him and their children back on Friday.  He moved to Swift Current in 1977 and worked different jobs at the Abilities Center.  He loved shredding paper.  HE worked for 40 years there and loved his work. He enjoyed going to Easter Seals Camp and he also loved bowling.  He liked to give the girls at work a hard time, joking and teasing them.  Robert also loved to dance.  He always had a glint in his eye and a smile on his face when you went to visit him.  He was always so proud of his family.  He also loved his Tim Horton’s coffee.  He would go walk downtown even if it was 40 below every Saturday and Sunday. People around town would always comment, ‘That’s your brother that we always see walking from the southside?” He would walk through Home Hardware just to say hi to his sister Marie.  Robert moved to Maple Creek in September 2016 where he was at the group home for a year.  He later was moved to the Long Term care for his last year of life.  A celebration of life gathering was held on Friday, September 14, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Parkside Memorial Funeral Home.  For further information or to sign the family book of condolence, visit www.parksidefuneralhome.com.  Arrangements are in care of Parkside Memorial Funeral Home – Ryan Cappelle.
