CARLETON – Jean passed away on May 22, 2017 at The Meadows Care Home in Swift Current, SK. Jean was born on May 30, 1926 in Bracken, SK the oldest of 4 girls to Clark & Jennie Sim. She lived 2 ½ miles southeast of Orkney and went to school in Orkney until grade 10. She was very involved in chores such as feeding animals, pumping and hauling water as her dad had gotten thrown off a harrow cart and had broken ribs. When she was 13 she was one of a group of students who rode all the way to Regina in the back of a 3- ton truck to see the King & Queen (King George VI & Queen Elizabeth). There were railway ties in the back of the truck for them to sit on and a tarp covering them. They took bedrolls and slept overnight in a hall. In the summers she worked for various neighbors milking cows, handing out mail from the post office, separating milk & cream, making meals, weeding gardens and babysitting. On October 11, 1945 she married Ken Carleton and they had 3 children; Russel, Carol and Larry. Jean did a lot of gardening, canning, rode horseback, chased cows, fed pigs, raised chickens to eat and sell and sometimes even sold 150 per year at the ready to eat stage. She also drove school bus as a sub for 3 years. She loved to square dance, play cards with neighbors, belonged to the Eastern Star and was very involved with the Orkney United Church. She is survived by: her son Russel (Shirley), grandson Raymond (Jodie, Taylor, Samantha, Damon, Logan, Danielle, Hailey, Cashton), granddaughter Marla (Robert Shirley, Kendell, Lydia, Camden, Evan); daughter Carol (Perry Cochrane), granddaughter Crystal (Glen Mihalicz, Mathieu, Zach), granddaughter Caralee (Mark Novecosky, Braeden, Jared, Ethan), granddaughter Carmen; son Larry (Bonnie), granddaughter Tara (Chris Mantyak, Huxley, Ayzlin, Pepper), grandson Cory (Chelsey) Tryten, Peyton), sister Reta (Norman Schick), brother-in-law Lafe Griffin, sister-in-law Marian North, brother & sister-in-law George and Sophie Carleton and many nieces and nephews.
