Obituary of Mike O’connell

Please share a memory of Mike to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
O’Connell Mike. It is with sadness that the family of Mike O’Connell, announces the news of his sudden and unexpected death on February 26, 2008. He is missed and remembered as being a great husband, father, grandfather and friend. Mike was born in Meadow Lake in 1939. He was married to Jo-Anne in 1960 and together they raised two sons, Pat and Tim. He worked at Sask Energy until his retirement in 1992. We are grateful for the many healthy and active years we enjoyed with him after that. Mike’s favorite activities were camping and riding his wave runner, and he took great pleasure in being joined at these activities with his sons, grandchildren and many friends. He was well liked and respected by all who got to know him. Not a big fan of Saskatchewan winters, Mike dealt with the periods of forced inactivity by taking cross town walks with his, much exercised, and beloved little dog, Conor, who would always be picked up and driven home at the half way point, after which Mike would make stops at his favorite watering holes to visit and enjoy a beer with old friends. He was an excellent judge of character, and you always found that “a friend to Mike was a friend to you.” At his request a funeral was not held for Mike, but true to his nature, a big bunch of great people got together to offer heartfelt condolences and share memories. His family would like to offer sincere thanks to all who attended for their support and also to apologize to those who couldn’t attend due to shortness (or lack) of notice. Mike was predeceased by his father, Pat, and his mother, Esther; his mother and father-in-law, Len and Francis Anderson; as well as by Jo-Anne’s sister and brother-in-law, and best friends, Frank and Rita Shaver. He is survived and forever remembered by his wife, Jo-Anne; his sons, Pat and Tim; and by his grandchildren, Melissa and Danny; as well as by his many life long friends from Jo-Anne’s family. Above all else, Mike was known for great humor and would have wanted to be remembered with happiness. Arrangements were entrusted to Parkside Memorial Funeral Home, Swift Current, Saskatchewan.
