WESSNER Mrs. Martha, aged 90 years of Medicine Hat, formerly of Swift Current, SK passed away on Monday, April 28, 2008 at Medicine Hat, AB. The funeral service was held on Friday, May 2, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. from the Church of The Open Bible with Pastor Phil Houston officiating. The organist was Shirley Deobald. A tribute was given by her nephew, Don Gustafson. The ushers were, Howard Heard and Robert Klassen. The pallbearers were nephews: James Gustafson, Ron Bader, Wes Bader, Reg Bader, Don Wessner and Brent Wessner. Honorary pallbearers were all of Martha’s friends and relatives. Martha is survived by her son, Stanley (Pat) of Medicine Hat, AB; her daughter, Sharon Eastwood of Georgetown, Ontario; grandchildren: Kelvin Eastwood (Shari) of CFB Cold Lake, AB, Krista Eastwood (Paul) of Georgetown, Ontario, Jacquie Becthold (Greg) of Redcliffe, AB, and Dione Todd (Shane) of Medicine Hat, AB; great-grandchildren: Daniel, Emma and Maggie Eastwood of CFB Cold Lake, AB, Joey, Hailey and Robert Eastwood of Georgetown, Ontario, Cody and Kelsey Todd of Medicine Hat, AB, and Megan and Linsey Becthold of Redcliffe, AB; step-grandchildren: Clayton, Cody and Sam Lockhard; brother, John Bader (Bertha) of Courtney, B.C.. Martha was predeceased by her husband, Paul, in 1992; brothers: Emil, Otto, Gus, Alec and Bill; sisters: Beccie, Mary and Edythe; her parents, John and Martha Bader. Martha was born at St. Boswells, SK on April 19, 1918. In her early years she moved to the Morse District where her parents farmed. She was educated in a small country school near the homestead and later attended Hillcrest Christian College in Regina. She married Paul Wessner November 15, 1942. They lived and farmed near the Wessner homestead, moving to a farm in the Flowing Well District in the summer of 1950. In 1973 they built a new home in Swift Current where they lived until Paul’s passing in 1992. Then, one year later, Martha moved to Medicine Hat, AB, making it her new home. Martha was always active in her church, first in the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Hodgeville and then the Church of The Open Bible in Swift Current, later attending Hillcrest EUB in Medicine Hat. Over the years she faithfully served as a Sunday School Teacher and was also active in the Women’s League. As a loving and sincere wife she did her part to establish a Christian home. As a Mother she is remembered as a patient teacher and companion. Martha had a deep compassion for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and loved to be surrounded by them. She will be greatly missed by her family and everyone who knew her. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Parkside Memorial Funeral Home, Swift Current, Saskatchewan.
