She met and married her husband Emil Wessner in 1938. They farmed in the Morse district until semi-retirement in 1980 when they moved to Swift Current. Leona later resided in Airdrie, AB and then at the Montarey Place in Calgary until her passing. Up until her last few years of declining health, she continued to live on her own, looking after her house, lawn and garden. Making quilts was a hobby she also enjoyed until her health no longer allowed her to do so. Funeral services were held on Saturday, July 5, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at the chapel of Parkside Memorial Funeral Home with Pastor Phil Houston officiating. The organist for the service was Arlene Olson. Leona was interred with her husband at Mount Pleasant Burial Park, Swift Current, SK. The family respectfully declines flowers. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation. The family would also like to thank the staff at Montarey Place and the staff and doctors at the Calgary Foothill Hospital for their exceptional care.
