PENNER-FUNK Gertrude (Harder), age 86 of the Swift Current Care Centre, passed away peacefully on August 29, 2008. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008, at 1:00pm, at the East Side Church of God with Pastor Mike officiating. Interment held at Mount Pleasant Burial Park. Pallbearers (grandchildren) were Barry Saathoff, Harry Saathoff, Glen Saathoff, William Funk, Darcy Funk, Clinton Funk. Honorary pallbearers (grandchildren): Scott Wiebe, Nazayh Zanidean, Joe Saathoff, Jeffrey Funk, Robert Reinisch, Nathan Chant. Ushers: Tony Funk and Bill Chalk. Eulogist was Delores Fitzpatrick. The deceased is survived by her daughters, Gertrude Saathoff of Elrose, SK, Delores Fitzpatrick (Roy) of Swift Current, SK and three sons Edward Funk (Moose Jaw Training Centre), Diedrich Funk (Carolyn) of Sparwood, B.C, Wilfred Funk (Bonnie) of Swift Current, SK., and fourteen grandchildren. Three stepchildren, Sheldon Penner (Stacey) of Saskatoon, Sk., Bradley Penner of Swift Current, Sk., Leslie Penner of Swift Current, SK., stepdaughter in-law, Brenda Penner and four step-grandchildren Three brothers, Elmer Harder (Yvonne) of Los Angeles, CA., Edward Harder (Bernice) of Abotsford, B.C., William Harder (Louise) of Veteran, AB, Irene Rossler of Lacomb, AB and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her father Johan and her mother Katherina, sister Rosie Dueck (Henry), Davidson, brother Johnny (infancy), brother in-law Herman Rossler, son Benjamin Funk, daughter Sarah Chant, son in-law Alvin Saathoff, grandchildren Charlotte and Sandra, great grandchild Brayden and stepson Rick Penner. Gertie was born January 27, 1922 in Gouldtown, Sk. She married Jacob Funk in 1939 and they were blessed with five children. After the passing of Jacob, she married Peter Funk in 1952 and they were blessed with two children. After the passing of Peter she married David Penner in 1992. Gertie spent most of her life in Swift Current, Sk. She enjoyed being in the company of friends and family and had many interests and hobbies. She loved gardening, crocheting, knitting, baking, cooking, and playing cards. Gertie spent many enjoyable hours having coffee with her dear friends at the local A&W. Even with the many twists and turns life threw at her, she always had a positive outlook and tried to see the best of every situation. It was her strength that saw the family through many difficult times and now it is her turn to be at peace and for us to carry on her strength. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Valley View Centre – Moose Jaw, SK in care of Edward Funk.
