Please share a memory of Louise to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
DONAHUE, Louise of Swift Current, SK passed away September 11, 2008 at the Palliser Regional Care Centre with her beloved husband Lawrence at her side
. The Mass of Christian Burial was held from Scared Heart Roman Catholic Church, Swift Current, SK on September 15, 2008 with Father Raymond Carignan officiating. Interment took place at Mount Pleasant Burial Park, Swift Current, SK. Pallbearers were: Steven Jacobs, Vernon Jacobs, Terry Jacobs, Kurt Jacob, Alois Cartwright, and Wilf Horton. Louis Clara Donahue was born to Sarah Ann (Nichols) and Henri Alois Jacobs on September 20, 1923 at their homestead in the Quantock district near Canopus, SK. her siblings were Natalie “Nettie” Bussey; Matilda “Tillie” Cartwright; Vernstad “Alois” Jacobs; Francois “Bud” Jacobs; and Peter “Pete” Jacobs. Louise worked at many odd jobs in the area before enrolling at the Marvel Hairdressing School in Regina. After, she moved to Swift Current in 1955 and worked for Florence Desjardine at the Central Beauty Salon. In 1960 she met the love of her life, Lawrence Donahue. Father Mondor married them on October 9, 1961 at Sacred Heart Church. Exactly one year later Shanna Louise Donahue arrived. She was born with Spina-Bifita needing much special care and love which she never lacked for, as she was the pride and joy of Louse and Lawrence’s life. Sadly Shanna died on September 22, 1967 leaving a huge void in her parents lives. Louise continued her hairdressing and also included Nursing Home and 3rd floor clients at the Palliser Regional Care Centre. Some staff remember Louise helping feed clients at meal times for a while too. If called upon she helped anyone who needed help. She had a green thumb. Her house was full of plants and their yard was always a mass of bloom. She shared both flowers and vegetables with friends and neighbors. Louise hands were never idle. She had a passion for sewing, crafts, knitting, and needleword. She loved music and had a beautiful voice. She also played accordian. She was a very determined woman—once she put her mind to anything there was no stopping her. As her health deteriorated she was eventually diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease. Because of brittle bones she had a succession of fractures so was in and out of hospital. Then came little strokes and finally a major one three years ago. Afterwards she was placed in the Palliser Regional Care Centre and that became her home. Through all of this Lawrence has remained constantly by her side, visiting her daily, sitting with Louise for hours. Louise is survived by husband Lawrence; one brother Pete (Agnes) Pelly; sister-in-laws Mary Heagy and Mary Jacobs; and many nieces and nephews. Donations may be made to the Dr. Noble Irwin Healthcare Foundation. For further information or to sign the family book of condolence, visit our website at www.parksidefuneralhome.com.
