DERKSEN Mr. Irwin, aged 79 years of Swift Current, passed away on October 22, 2008 at the Cypress Regional Hospital. Irwin was born on a farm near Herbert, SK on March 17, 1929 to John and Lena Derksen (Gerbrandt). Irwin is survived by his wife, Clara (Spate); daughter, Tracey (Randy) Schlamp; daughter, Lorna (Allen) Wiens of Wymark, their children, Lee-Ann (Trampus) Lacelle, (Neville) and Rae-Ann Wiens, (Saskatoon); son, Rod (Melinda) Baum of Swift Current, and their sons, Troy Baum (Edmonton) and Shane Baum (Regina); two great-grandchildren, Hillary and Tyler Lacelle. He is also survived by sister, Dora (George) Thiessen, of Saskatoon; brother, Marvin (Gladys) of Herbert; sister-in-law, Laura Stolson of Hodgeville; brother-in-law, Leonard (Marjorie) Spate of Morse; and numerous nieces and nephews. Irwin was predeceased by his father, John, in 1975; his mother, Lena, in 1943; and sister, Lena, in infancy; stepmother, Tina, in 2003. Irwin started his career as a grain buyer for Federal Grain in 1954 at Burnham, SK and continued at Sask Wheat Pool in 1979 when they bought out Federal Grain. His Saskatchewan Wheat Pool postings and transfers took him to Wymark, Burnham, Braddock, Neidpath and Hallonquist where he retired in 1989. He was involved and interested in all of the communities he resided in and enjoyed his participation with their clubs and organizations. He was a dedicated family man and took great pride and joy in his families endeavors and achievements. He was a faithful fan of Speedy Creek Racing and a season ticket holder for many years.
