HOLDEN Mrs. Eileen Adelaide, aged 84 of Swift Current, formerly of Neidpath, passed away on October 28, 2008 in Swift Current. The funeral service will be held on Friday, November 7, 2008 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Greg Kiel officiating. The interment will be held at Spring Valley Cemetery, Hallonquist, SK. The pallbearers are all whose life she affected. Ushers will be Darryn Fehr and Alfred Crick (great-grandsons). The organist will be Arlene Olson. The urn bearer will be Anita Fehr (granddaughter). Eileen was born in the Hallonquist area, to Sigmund and Eldora Berge on December 2, 1923. She attended Ettrick Bank School and graduated from Swift Current Collegiate. She joined the Royal Canadian Air Force serving out of St. Hubert, Quebec. She married Lloyd Holden on November 4, 1943. They farmed in the Neidpath area until they retired to Swift Current. She could be found chasing cattle or driving the tractor when necessary. She was active in the community as master of ceremonies for several events, Lutheran Ladies Aid, Home and School and the Hallonquist History Book “A Light in the Window”. After retirement she continued to be active as Master of Ceremonies and secretary treasurer of the Swift Current Old Time Fiddlers, as well as volunteering for the SPCA and her church. She enjoyed quilting and writing poems or “jingles” as she called them in her spare time. She was also a cheerful listening ear when her family needed emotional support. She is survived by her daughters: Marian (Duncan) and Frances; son, Lawrence; grandchildren: Louise, Cheryl, Melody, Anita (Ivan), Eric, and Sheena; great-grandchildren: Alfred, Shania, Daryl, Darian, Randy, Darryn, Kaitlyn, Dustin and Trinity; sisters: Marjorie (Carl), Dorothy, and Florence (Alfred); brothers: Vernon, Walter (Mary), and Ronald (Sharon); sisters-in-law: Beatrice, Alma, Gladys (Tom), Mabel and Margaret; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 61 years, Lloyd Holden; brothers: Sherman and Gordon; sister-in-law, Jean; brothers-in-law, Hilmer and Melvin Holden, Dave Jaques, Len Halstrom, and Al Carleton. Memorial donations may be made to the St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Swift Current Care Centre Auxiliary or to the SPCA.
