Fred Sherman Obituary

SHERMAN Mr. Fred Albert – July 22, 1920 – November 1, 2008. Born in Vanguard to Amos & Alice Sherman. At the age of 21 Fred joined the armed forces and served with Unit RCASC. He served in Canada as well as the United Kingdom and Continental Europe. He received many medals and was discharged May 27, 1946.


Upon his return he farmed, painted barns and houses and was a helpful carpenter to his neighbors. He also worked as a mechanic for Neville Garage. On March 2, 1953 he married Anna Carleton (Allan). They lived in Neville until 1966 when Fred purchased his own garage in Success. In his later years Fred could be seen on his riding lawn mower cutting the grass in the village of Success. He also took pride in maintaining the family plots at the Neville Cemetery. He was an avid reader and a long time Legion member (60 years). Fred and Anna were active in attending the Legion dances. In 2005 Fred moved to Swift Current. Fred is survived by 2 sister-in-laws, Marion Sherman of Victoria, Ontario, Yula Cobler of Peachland, BC and their families; 3 sons, Doug (Penny Lee) their children, Shannon (Chris) and great-granddaughter Emilie, Curtis and Christopher (Christy) all of Calgary; son Bev (Shirley) of Swift Current and their sons, Mike of Swift Current and Kelly (Marlene) and great-grandson, Harley of Flin Flon, MB and great-granddaughter Jordan of Swift Current and son Evan of Medicine Hat, AB. Fred is predeceased by: his parents, Amos and Alice, his wife, Anna in 2005; brother Charlie and brother-in-law Wayne Cobler. There will be a private family interment at the Neville Cemetery.
