Gwendolyn Berthena Campbell February 15th,1920 – December 3rd, 2008 Mrs. Gwendolyn Berthena Campbell passed away on Wednesday, December 3, 2008 at the age of 88 years. Gwen was born to James and Sarah Day on February 15, 1920 in Gaultois, Newfoundland. She was the second child of a family of six children. Upon completion of her high school requirements she attended teacher’s college. She taught in Newfoundland until the second world war began. Gwen then became a secretary in the U.S. army stationed in St.Johns, Newfoundland. It was at this posting that Gwen met and married Arnold Peter George Campbell on April 27th, 1943. From this union came four children, ten grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. After the war the couple made their home on the prairies. Arnold’s employment with Beaver Lumber took the couple to Saskatoon, Regina, Aylsham, Melfort, and finally to Swift Current. Gwen enjoyed her years in Swift Current working at Simpson Sears and Laycox Drugs. She was a faithful member of St. Stephen’s Anglican church. Gwen will be most remembered for her love and care of family. Gwen was predeceased by her mother and father, husband Arnold, daughter Laura Penelope, sister Laura Garland, brothers Fred Day, Ralph Day, and Nathanial (Gertie) Day. She is survived by brother James (Ada) Day of Newfoundland, sisters-in -law Audrey Day, Jean Noel, and children; MarjoryTaylor of Swift Current, James (Marie) Campbell of Edmonton, Barry (Judy) Campbell of Edmonton, Penelope ( Donald) Rosten of Saskatoon. Gwen took great pride in her grandchildren: David Taylor, Robin Campbell, Sonya (Daniel) Salamon, Carolyn (Damon) Genest, Amber Taylor (Brian), Jocelyn Rosten, Robert Campbell, Christine Campbell, Leah Taylor, James Paul Rosten and her great grandchildren; Caleb Genest, William Genest, Sophia Salamon, John Taylor Malone. Funeral service will be held, in Swift Current, on Wednesday, December 10th, (2:00 pm ) at St. Stephens Anglican Church. Officiating will be Rev. Eleanor Rockabar. The organist was Janet Neubauer. A musical tribute was performed by her daughter, Penny Rosten “I saw three ships”. A Eulogy was read by her sons, Jim Campbell and Barry Campbell. Scripture Readers were, Don Rosten and Marie Campbell. The pallbearers were: David Taylor, Robin Campbell, Robert Campbell, Don Rosten, Damon Genest and Paul Rosten. A tribute to Grandma was by Leah Taylor and Robin Campbell. The ushers were Harvey Mantie and Jim Smart. Interment will take place at Hillcrest cemetery and funeral arrangements were entrusted to Parkside Memorial Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke foundation or to St. Stephen’s Anglican Church.
