Please share a memory of Eleanor to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
SAUDER Eleanor, aged 88 years of Swift Current, Saskatchewan passed away on January 19, 2009 at the Palliser Regional Care Centre. She was born on September 18, 1920 at Rush Lake, Saskatchewan, the ninth child of a family of eleven children, to John and Mary Sauder. Eleanor received her education at Swan Lake School. She spent many years helping on the farm doing the work that was required, some of it being quite menial. After the passing of her father, Eleanor and her mother purchased a small home in Swift Current, where they kept a very nice yard with flowers that they both loved, and a garden that provided the vegetables. At the same time Elenaor found work in the Motel Industry. She found this work quite strenuous because of her chronic back problems and arthritis. She then found work as a seamstress at the Swift Current Union Hospital. It wasn’t long before her prowess with a sewing machine and surger became evident. Soon, departments like surgery came to her to design and make special drapes for some surgical procedures. She had found her niche at the institution. Finally she had to give up her job because of her arthritis, but she still kept up her yard with her favorite flowers and garden. After the yard work became a burden, she moved to the Pioneer Manor. After only a few years and failing health she had to move to the Herbert Nursing Home and finally to the Palliser Regional Care Centre. She leaves to mourn her two sisters-in-law: Dora Sauder (Sam) of Swift Current and Lillian Sauder (George) of the Herbert Nursing Home; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Eleanor was predeceased by her parents, John and Mary Sauder; siblings: John (Eleanor) Sauder, Sam Sauder, Adam (Clara) Sauder, Elizabeth (William) Backer, Annie (Robert) Wiese, Martha (Fred) Wittman, George Sauder, Arthur (Lily) Sauder, Eva (Henry Meyer), and Henry Sauder in infancy. The funeral service was held on Monday, January 26, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Olaf Lutheran Church with Pastor Amber Hoffman officiating. The organist was Arlie Neufeld and special music was performed by Eleanor’s nieces and nephews. The ushers were, Herb Ruf and Archie Loose. The pallbearers were: Arnold Backer, Raymond Wittman, Glen Sauder, Donald Sauder, Harold Sauder and Gordon Sauder. The Interment was held at Peace Lutheran Church Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the St. Olaf Lutheran Church Building Fund or to the Alzheimer Association. The family wishes to thank the Doctors and Staff at the Herbert Nursing Home and the Palliser Regional Care Centre for their love and care given to Eleanor over the past years.
