Please share a memory of Henry to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
ANDRES, Henry E. (Hank) 1929 – 2009 Henry E. (Hank) Andres, youngest son of Peter A. Andres and Elizabeth (Harms) Andres, of Herbert, Saskatchewan passed away peacefully at the Cypress Regional Hospital in Swift Current in the early hours of November 6, 2009 at the age of 80 years. Henry is survived by his two sons, Brian (Irene), Gerry (Shirley); three grandchildren, Philip, Anthony, and Christy; two brothers, Abe (Gertie) and Bernie (Doris); one sister Kathryn Jahnke; and one brother-in-law Bill Andres. He was predeceased by his wife Irmgard Helen in April 2002; his brothers, Pete (Mary), Isaac (Mary), Jake (Mary); his sister Elizabeth Derksen (Isaac); and brother-in-law Art Jahnke. Henry was born on the home farm 6 miles south of Rush Lake. He was educated locally at the Donnelyville School, Herbert School, and Swift Current Bible School. On December 26, 1952 he married Irmgard (Irma) Andres, the daughter of Henry H. Andres. He farmed in the Herbert area for a short time, and then in 1960 became a grain buyer for Pioneer Grain Company at Duncairn and McMahon. In July of 1964 he moved the family to Lethbridge, Alberta to pursue a career in barbering. The next year, in 1965, an opportunity was presented that would alter the rest of Henry’s working life until he retired in 1991. He was offered employment with the Province of Alberta in building maintenance and caretaking in Lethbridge at Sifton House, and the Alberta Provincial Court House. This eventually evolved in 1975 to a move north to Calgary, a promotion into a supervisory position, and a new venue at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) until he retired. Henry decided in 2003 to return to his roots by moving back to Herbert where he took up residence in a small house on Brownlee Street. Henry or “Hank” was generally known in the community as a friendly and peaceful man with a positive attitude who loved to fix and recycle things. He had a generous and giving attitude. His neighbors might find their snow shoveled or lawn cut without asking, just because. Singing in the local church choir, or listening to the sweet harmony of well sung music brought him great joy and relaxation. “Hank” will be missed by his family and friends. His funeral service will be presided over by Pastor Donovan Epp on Saturday, November 14, 2009 at 11:00 AM in the Living Fellowship Church, 303 Dennis Street, Herbert, Sk. If you wish to contribute to some of the charities that were close to Henry’s heart, please donate to: The MCC Canadian Foodgrains Bank, Prostate Cancer Research, or the charity of your choice. Our sincere thanks to Dr. Kassett and staff at the Herbert Integrated Health Facility and to the doctors and staff at the Cypress Regional Hospital in Swift Current. Arrangements entrusted to Parkside Memorial Funeral Home, 69 – 4th Ave NE, Swift Current. Condolences may be forwarded to www.parksidefuneralhome.com.
