COULTER – Sylvia, age 80 years of Cabri, SK passed away on Friday, December 8, 2017 at the Cypress Regional Hospital. At Sylvia’s request, there will not be a formal service. Sylvia is survived by her son, Jim (Elenor) Coulter; daughter Heather (Ernie) Camphaug; grandchildren, Ashley, Kyler, Kale and Klanci (Winston); great grandchildren, Ashton, Zander and Jessie. She is also survived by her brother, Bud (Aileen) Alstad; sister, Carol Tulloch; and brother-in-law Jack (Eve) Marlin. Sylvia is predeceased by her husband, Tom; parents, Gus and Erma and sister Elvira. Sylvia was born September 6, 1937 in Cabri. She spent the first 2 years of her life living in Shackleton, then spent much of her early childhood living with her father while he worked in various locations throughout Saskatchewan. Her and her family eventually settled in the flat north of Shackleton where she met her best friend and husband Tom. They married on March 29, 1956. They had their son, Jim in November of 1957 and their daughter, Heather in February of 1960. Sylvia was devoted to her family, farm, rodeo and horses. She was an accomplished barrel racer and had the honor of being named the Canadian Champion Barrel Racer in 1964. She played a major role in the beginning stages of the Sandhill Rodeo which is still running today. Sylvia also qualified for several Saskatchewan Girls Barrel Racing Association Finals. After hanging up her boots, she and Tom took pride in raising high quality quarter horses. Tom passed away in 2008, leaving Sylvia with the family farm. In 2009, she moved to Cabri where she enjoyed the perks of town life such as coffee row, card parties, trips to Swift Current for shopping and the casino and the odd trip to the pub for a beer. As Sylvia’s health declined, she continued to enjoy visits from her friends and family and was very appreciative of everyone that stopping in to see her. Although her passing was sudden, we take comfort in knowing she is no longer struggling. Her sense of humor, quick wit and one liner’s will be missed by all of those who knew her. Memorial donations may be made to the SPCA or to the Ladies Auxiliary at the Prairie Healthcare Centre in Cabri, SK.
