HENNING – Wilfred I. age 80 years of the Palliser Regional Care Centre, Swift Current passed away on Tuesday, December 15, 2009 after a lengthy battle with cancer.
He is survived by two sons; Wayde and his wife Verna of Lloyminster, AB, Allan and his companion, Faith of Swift Current, SK; one grandson, Dustin and his wife Jennifer of Lloydminster, AB; 2 great-granddaughters, Ashanti and Nevaeh of Lloydminster, AB; 1 brother Harry and his wife Dorothy of Kamloops, B.C. and numerous nieces and nephews. Wilfred was predeceased by his loving wife Doris, January 9, 1979; parents, John on March 29, 1976 and mother Elsie on April 10, 1995. Wilf was born in the Prairie View District, on May 28, 1929 to Elsie and John Henning. He started working for CN as an Assistant Foreman in 1949. He met and married Doris Benson on August 30, 1952. Together they raised 2 boys; Wayde, April 12, 1962 and Allan, December 5, 1968. He lived in many communities, ending up retiring in Swift Current. When the boys were very young, Doris passed away with Cancer. Wilf was left to raise the boys alone. He continued to work for CN until 1986 when he retired. He enjoyed fishing and the outdoors. He would go for his daily walks around the neighborhood and go to Coffee Row. He also enjoyed making things with wood. He was a very particular carpenter, everything had to be perfect. His favorite game was Solitaire and you didn’t dare cheat at the game when he was around. This last year he battled a painful struggle with Cancer, but he fought to the bitter end, with his family around him. He loved his family very much, and will be missed by all. Funeral services were held on Saturday, December 19, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Parkside Memorial Funeral Home with Pastor Greg Kiel officiating. The organist was Arlene Olson. The interment will take place at a later date. For further information or to sign the family book of condolences, visit our website at www.parksidefuneralhome.com. “Don’t Grieve For Me” – Jennifer
I could not stay another day,
To laugh, to love, to work or pray.
Tasks left undone must stay that way,
I found that peace at the close of the day.
If my love has left a void,
Then fill it with remembered joy.
Perhaps my time has seemed too brief,
Don’t lengthen it now with undue grief.
Lift up your hearts,
And share with me,
God wanted me now,
He has set me free.
