Obituary of Velma Short

SHORT Mrs. Velma Luella (nee Humble) of Swift Current, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2010 at the age of 85 at the Swift Current Care Centre, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on November 14, 1924 at her grandparents homestead in Cadillac, SK to Helmer and Florence Humble. She was the third of five children (Norma, Everett, Velma, Donna and Raymond). On October 9, 1948, she married Earle Short and they raised 3 daughters. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, 7 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Velma made special friendships with the ladies of the FirstUnitedChurch in the Quilting and Rummage Room. Velma is survived by daughter Marva Short and family (Aaron and Melle Short, Madison, Logan, Luke), Ingrid and Jeff Schulz (Lillian, Elsie), daughter Brenda and Brian Kochan (Kelly and Ivica Demo, Jack, Russ, Hillary), Fraser and Tammy Kochan (Charlotte, Serena), Audrey and Jim Katsilieris (William), daughter Teresa and Rick Garraway (Alison and Kevin Mathers, Colby, Hudson), Kristine and Jeff Brochu (Zack), one brother Raymond Humble and his wife Jean, sister-in-law Anne Short, and numerous special nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predceased by her husband Earle (1996), father Helmer Humble (1964), mother Florence Humble (1988), sister Norma Simpson (Gordon), sister-in-law Frances Wightman, Verva Kenzie (Walt), Thelma (Bob) Stevenson, Jean Short and brothers Russell Short and Donald (Ethel) Short. Velma loved life and stated many times how fortunate and fulfilled she was. Velma and her family were very grateful for the compassion and kindness given in her last 6 months at the Care Centre. She will be missed so much by everyone who loved her dearly. The Memorial Service was held at Parkside Memorial Funeral Chapel on July 5, 2010 with Shirley Wilson officiating. Donations to the Swift Current Care Centre Auxiliary would be appreciated by the family. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Parkside Memorial Funeral Home, Swift Current, SK.
