THEISE – Richard of FergusonBay, Simmie District and formerly of Medicine Hat and Success passed away suddenly on July 24, 2010 on the family farm east of Success at the age of 58 years. A memorial service was held on Saturday August 1, 2010 at FergusonBay. Rick is survived by a daughter Karen (Nigel) of Edmonton, Alberta and his son Craig of Brooks, Alberta and the mother of his children Jeanette of Medicine Hat, Alberta. His brothers and sister, Ron (Judy) of Jenner, Alberta; Terry (Carol) of Ponteix, SK.; Judy Anderson (Glenda) of Swift Current, SK.; Brian of Success, SK.; Tom of Success, SK. and Bruce (Ev) of Swift Current, SK. He is also survived by numerous cousins, uncles, nieces and nephews. Also surviving is his former brother-in-law and friend of 40 years, Doug Anderson and special friend Diane Anderson. At the time of his passing he was also survived by his mother Anne Theise of Swift Current. He was predeceased by his father Reinhard, brother Bob, a sister Carol, maternal grandparents Brian and Mildred Hutchingame of Ottawa, Ontario and paternal grandparents Adolf and Olga Theise of Medicine Hat, Alberta and nephews Adam and Scott Theise. Rick was born on May 22, 1952 in Ottawa, Ontario. He moved to the family farm at Success with his parents and three brothers in 1952. He was later joined by a sister and three more brothers. He attended school in Success and at O.M. Irwin Collegiate in Swift Current. Rick grew up on the farm at Success participating in all the daily activities required to operate a mixed farming operation. He also worked for neighbours when time allowed. After Rick left home he tried his hand at various jobs throughout his working career. He worked for the Dept. Of Highways for a short time and sold furniture while working at the McLeod’s Dept. Store in Swift Current. After leaving Swift Current he worked at a saw mill in Canal Flats, British Columbia for a short time. He then started his career in the oil and gas industry in Alberta, living for a short while in Calgary before moving to Medicine Hat where he lived for the next 35 years. Rick retired earlier this year and decided to move back to Swift Current and his cabin at FergusonBay. Rick enjoyed curling, golfing and most of all fishing. He made numerous trips to Campbell River, British Columbia to fish for salmon and halibut. He also made many trips to Northern Saskatchewan to fish for any species that would take a lure and also SuffernLake, fishing for Rainbow and Brook Trout. Fishing was in his blood so it was an easy and natural decision for him to purchase his cabin at FergusonBay on Duncairn Dam in the mid-1990s. He spent countless hours in his boat in the spring, summer and fall and in his ice shack in the winter. Not only could he catch fish, he could cook them to perfection. Many people enjoyed his B.B.Q. salmon, pan fried walleye and deep fried beer battered perch. Rick loved life and lived it to the fullest. We will miss him deeply and remember him always. We believe the following Fisherman’s Prayer is most fitting. God, grant that I may live to fish for another shining day, But when my final cast is made, I then most humbly pray, When nestled in your landing net, As I lay peacefully asleep, You’ll smile at me and judge That I’m “good enough to keep”. Arrangements were entrusted to Parkside Memorial Funeral Home in Swift Current. A Memorial Donation was made to the Success Community Hall in memory of Rick
