Please share a memory of Minnie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
REMPEL (Reimer) – Wilhelmina (Minnie) Doreen It is with profound sadness for the children of Minnie Rempel to announce the passing of their beloved mother, on Saturday November 20, 2010. She died peacefully at home surrounded by loving family. Minnie is survived by her 5 children, Brenda MacFarland, Debra Rempel (Gary Watson), Shelley Rempel (Myron Kramar), Lyle Rempel, and Karla Rempel (Mark Whalen); and her 5 grandchildren Daniel Gagnon (Catherine Napierala), Lucas Kramar, Annie Kramar, Tessa Whalen and Juliana Whalen. She was predeceased by her husband Peter on August 26, 2004, after 54 years of marriage. Mrs. Minnie Rempel (nee Reimer) was born April 29, 1926 in the Rush Lake/Waldeck area to Lydia and August Reimer. Minnie lived on the family farm with her parents and 8 brothers and sisters. She attended Spence School near her home completing grade 11. Prior to her marrying Peter Rempel on November 24, 1950, Minnie lived and worked at the local hospital in Swift Current. Minnie moved to McMahon where Peter had a small business. Minnie worked as a rural Canada Post driver, off and on, for many years, often with small children accompanying her on the ride. Minnie was very dedicated to raising her children and later minding and visiting her grandchildren. In 1968, Peter and Minnie moved their family to their new home in Swift Current. Minnie worked at the Swift Current Nursing Home kitchen from the mid 1970s to the early 1990s. Minnie was well known for her exceptional skills as a seamstress, having created hundreds of beautiful outfits for her children and grandchildren. Mom and Dad enjoyed traveling and together with their family, visited most of Canada, Western United States, Mexico, Europe, Fiji, New Zealand and Australia. At home Minnie enjoyed regular coffee outings and shopping trips with her children and grandchildren. Minnie faced life with great courage. She overcame the loss of vision in one eye after an accident on the farm, in her early 20s, as well as her struggle with asthma as a young woman. She enjoyed exceptional health most of her life, until she was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year. Surgery further complicated her wellbeing and after falling and breaking her hip in September of this year and another operation, Mom’s health continued to deteriorate. Following a short stay in hospital, Mom’s final days were spent comfortably at home with family around her. We would like to extend special thanks to the Home Care staff, the nursing staff at the Cypress Regional Hospital, Dr. Ghouri and her long time physician Dr. Ibrahim. Minnie’s funeral service was held at St Olaf Lutheran Church on Friday November 26, 2010 at 2:00 PM. The service was followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan (279 – 3rd Ave. N, Saskatoon, SK, S7K 2J8, www.heartandstroke.ca) or to a charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Parkside Memorial Funeral Home, Swift Current, Saskatchewan. For further information or to sign the family book of condolence visit parksidefuneralhome.com.
