Phyllis Johnsen Obituary

Phyllis Freebairn (Poland) Johnsen

October 7, 1925 ~ January 29, 2011

Phyllis Freebairn (Poland) Johnsen passed away peacefully on Sat. Jan. 29, 2011 with her family by her side at the Herbert Integrated Healthcare Facility.

She was predeceased by her father in 1959, her mother in 1976, her brother George in 1980, her first husband Calvin Routledge in 1982, and her second husband Ralph Johnsen in 1996. She will be sadly missed by her daughter Nancy (Neufeld), her son George (Krista) Routledge, grandchildren & great grandchildren: Alysa & Kyle Mathies and Avaya; Brayden & Nicole Neufeld; Kirby & Alison Routledge, Payton and Karson; Brett & Kelita Routledge and Grayer. Phyllis was born on the farm at Horizon, SK on Oct. 7, 1925. In the 1930’s the family moved to Quill Lake and on to Regina in 1940. In 1942 she graduated from Hairdressing, beginning her life’s career. She met and married Calvin Routledge on May 2, 1953 and together they had 2 children; Nancy and George. In July of 1961 Phyllis, together with her 2 children and her mother, moved to Herbert where she started the Phyllis Beauty Shop. Phyllis loved her job and her many clients whom she cherished as good friends. On May 2, 1985 she married Ralph Johnsen. During their years together some highlights were watching her grandsons many hockey games, taking them fishing, as well as socializing with friends and family. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren held a special place in her life. The trips she took with her grandchildren were always eventful with many memories made. When she wasn’t working, she was busy doing fancy needle work, making sure each one of us had a bedspread, afghan, sweater or something we needed. Over the years she was a member of the Royal Purple, Lioness and Lions Clubs, enjoying many friendships, much camaraderie and the travel it involved.

She continued to work as long as her health allowed her to, always looking forward to visits with friends. Mom will be lovingly remembered by her family and friends.

The funeral service was held on Friday, February 4, 2011 at the Living Faith Fellowship Church in Herbert with Pastor Donovan Epp officiating. The interment was held at Herbert Cemetery.
