Obituary of Denise Marcelle Pittet

Please share a memory of Denise to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Denise Marcelle Bazin was born on August 16, 1929 in Notre dame de Lourdes, Manitoba. She was the second child of Joseph Bazin and Mercedes Lafrenière and had two brothers and 5 sisters. In 1951, Denise married the love of her life, Roger Pittet. They would move to Gravelbourg, Saskatchewan in 1957 to open a Macleods hardware store. It was there that they raised their four children, Paulette, Gerard, Ronald and Michel. Denise loved music and played the piano and organ. She sang alto in many choirs over the years. For over 27 years she played the organ at the church for Christmas, Easter, funerals, weddings and many Sunday masses. She had many hobbies. She was an excellent seamstress and could always be called on to do an emergency alteration. She also spent many hours knitting, crocheting fancy tablecloths, hardanger and cross-stitch. She also loved jigsaw and crossword puzzles. Denise and Roger built a new house in 1964 and did much of the work themselves. Denise could handle a hammer and a bench saw and there wasn’t much she wouldn’t tackle. They would live in that house for 49 years and when Roger’s eyesight and health failed him, she became the plumber, the repairman and even the electrician. In the early 70’s they purchased a lot at Thomson Lake and spent many happy years there, improving the cottage and adding on to it. It was there that they received many of their children and grandchildren, relatives and friends. They loved to golf. It was during that time that they purchased a property in Mesa, Arizona where they spent many winters. Roger and Denise moved to Swift Current in 2013 to be closer to some of their children but a part of them would always remain in Gravelbourg. Denise became a devoted care-giver when Roger’s health failed him. She was his eyes, his legs and a most loving and patient wife. They were the poster children for long and lasting love, having been married for nearly 65 years. Denise spent the last days of life at the Meadows Care Home in Swift Current. A resident of House 14 her and her family received wonderful care. She passed away peacefully on October 17, 2017. Denise is survived by her four children, Paulette (Bert) Legault, Gerard Pittet, Ronald (Sue) Pittet and Michel Pittet,(Laurie Kerr ) 8 grandchildren, Joël Legault, Brigitte Legault (Dylan Kunz), Jean-Paul Pittet (Renée Strand), Alyssa Pittet (Craig Nieuwstad), Vanessa Friesen (Tyler Friesen) , Michelle Pittet (Paul Blais), Danica Pittet (Aaron Martens ) and Nicole Pittet (Mike Czapla ), 5 great-grandchildren, Felicity Kunz, Mercedes Kunz, Emily Handley, Ziyah Pittet. and Dominique Blais.
