DAHL – Robert Clarence passed away on Tuesday, October 18, 2011 at the age of 96 years. He is survived by his wife, Violet Dahl; son Robert M. Dahl of Swift Current/Fernie, BC; daughter Nancy (Tim) Brady of Whitehorse, Yukon; grandchildren Kyle and Megan Brady of Whitehorse, Yukon and cousin Alwyn Carelton of Swift Current, SK. Robert was predeceased by his father George Douglas Dahl and his mother Jonetta Dahl. Robert was born in Swift Current on July 1, 1915 to George Douglas and Jonetta Dahl. He received his elementary and high schooling in Swift Current and then attended the University of Saskatchewan. He later operated Swift Current Bottlers Ltd from 1939 to his retirement in 1979. Robert also owned and operated indoor and Drive-in Theatres from 1951-1976. He served on City Council for 19 years – 6 years as Alderman (1945 -1946, 1952-1955) and 13 years (1957-1962, 1967-1973) and the Mayor of Swift Current. Robert also was the city representative on the original Union Hospital Board 1946-1952; President of Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Association 1961-1962; served in the R.C.A.F. during the Second World War 1942-1944; served with the 14th Canadian Hussars for 13 years as Bandsman which he received the Canadian Forces Decoration. He was also very interested and active in many sports and community projects and was President of the Swift Current Indians Hockey Club from 1950-1952. Robert held positions in many service organizations like: Swift Current Kiwanis Club – 25yr member; Life Member of B.P.O.E Elks Lodge #8 and Life Member of I.O.O.F. Lodge #28 and was a 32 Degree Mason. He was a lover of music and an accomplished clarinet and saxophone player and belonged to the Elks Band and various orchestras/bands throughout his active life. Robert was the President and instructor of Swift Current Boys Band and member of the Wa-Wa Shire Drums & Bugle Band. Robert and his wife Violet were married for 68 years and he was a kind and loving husband, father and grandfather. He will be missed. Donations in memory of Robert may be made to the Swift Current SPCA. At Robert’s request there will be no funeral service. A private graveside service will be held at a later date. The family would like to thank everyone who has offered friendship, caring and sympathy.
