Obituary of Thelma Onstad

ONSTAD – Thelma, age 91 of Swift Current, SK formerly of Shaunavon passed away peacefully on December 2, 2011 at the Cypress Regional Hospital in Swift Current, SK. Thelma was born and raised in the Simmie District where she attended early school and worked for neighbors in the area. She married Elmer Onstad in 1948 and they lived on the family farm until 1966 when they moved into Shaunavon. She worked at the Shaunavon Hospital for 9 years. Thelma moved to Swift Current in 1988 and resided at the Heritage Towers until her passing. Predeceased by her parents Nels Olson in 1954 and Amanda in 1985, sister Bernice Undseth in 2000, mother-in-law and father-in-law Henry and Lena Onstad, sister-in-law Tena and husband George Larson, nephews Melvin of Shaunavon, John of Saskatoon and Dale Larson of Calgary.
Thelma is survived by her sister-in-law Evelyn Sipple of Albert Lea, Minnesota, nieces Judy Larson of Saskatoon, Helen Larson of Shaunavon, Lois & Ed Craig, Bryn & Jensen Varjassy of Swift Current, Lee & Dave, Jordan & Brett Harley of Regina, Kelsey & Wayne, Megan & Matthew Graham of Shell Lake, Tyler Larson of Calgary as well as her many nieces, nephews and cousins in the USA. Also a special friend Doris King and the Hope Ladies Circle from St. Olaf Lutheran Church and her many friends at Heritage Towers. Funeral Services were held on Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. from St. Olaf Lutheran Church with Pastor Greg Kiel officiating. The organist was Arlene Olson and the pallbearers were: Burnette Olson, Allan Sundby, Bob Neufeld, Ed Varjassy, Dave Harley and Brett Harley. The interment took place at Hillcrest Cemetery, Shaunavon, SK. Donations may be made in Thelma’s memory to St. Olaf Lutheran Church Memorial Fund.
