QUIRK – Christina (Chris) Mary Elizabeth, age 85 years of Swift Current, SK passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at the Swift Current Care Centre on Friday, January 6, 2012, 2 days after her 85th Birthday. Chris was born in Vanguard, SK on January 4, 1927; oldest child of Joe & Rose Brown. Chris was raised with her brothers and sister in the farming communities in Ponteix and around the Vanguard District. In 1949, Chris married Wilbur Quirk and they lived on the family farm until they retired and moved to Swift Current in 1978. She was a farm wife and homemaker and an avid knitter. Gramma’s one main interest was to knit a special sweater for her many grandchildren. She also had an afghan or dish cloth on the go to give for the next wedding or whoever said they would like one. She had quite the green thumb whether it was her potted plants inside or puttering around outside. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Chris will be missed and lovingly remembered by her family; daughter Barbara (Bill) Caughie and children; Leslie (Richard) Squires; Christine; son, David (Sherry) and children; Jay (Laura) and Gregory (Nathalie); son Keith and children Twila Taylor, Travis (Sierra), Kevin (Crystal) and Christopher; son Brian and children Kendall Pederson, and Wendy (Kim) Gans; daughter Phyllis (Allen) Knoblauch and their son Jaxson; son Denis (Vicki) and children Taylor, Jared and Torrie; 12 great-grandchildren; sister Betty Kramer; brother Bill (Nancy) Brown and numerous nieces and nephews. Chris was predeceased by her parents Joe and Rose Brown; husband Wilbur Quirk; brothers Buster, Raymond and Ed; sister-in-laws Ethel Coleman, Edith Bar, Edna Quirk, Marjorie Brown; brother-in-laws Jack Coleman, Ben Bar, Lorne Kramer and twin grandsons in infancy. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Swift Current Care Centre Auxiliary 700 Aberdeen St. S.E. Swift Current, SK S9H 3E3. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at the Swift Current Care Centre for the great care they gave to their mom. A funeral mass was held on Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. from Christ the Redeemer Roman Catholic Parish with Father James Owolagba officiating. The ushers were Christine Caughie and Wendy Gans. The pallbearers were: Travis Quirk, Kevin Quirk, Christopher Quirk, Scott Brown, Ian Brown and Wayne Wall.
