REIMER – Lydia (Reich), age 85 of Swift Current formerly of Waldeck district passed away on Thursday, February 9, 2012 at the Cypress Regional Hospital. Lydia will be lovingly remembered by her children: Jerry (Karen), Ron (Joanne), Sandra Carr, Dennis (Evelyn); 8 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren as well as her brother Gus (Polly) Reich, sister-in-laws Lena Meyer, Clara Schmeiss and Ellen Middlestead; brother-in-laws Harold Reimer, Erwin (Helen) Reimer, and Pete Heinrichs. Lydia was predeceased by her husband Vern in 2009, her parents Rudolph and Christine Reich, brothers Bill and Rudolph and sisters Freida and Hulda and son-in-law Tom Carr. Lydia was born on November 17, 1926 in Poland and immigrated to Canada at the age of 6 months. She was raised near Herbert, SK, attended Pony Butte School and finished her schooling in Herbert. In 1947 she married Vern, they settled on a farm north of Waldeck and were married for 62 years. In the fall of 1973 Vern and Lydia moved to Swift Current where she resided until her passing. Lydia was the true picture of a hardworking farm wife. She loved to garden and cook and won many awards at Frontier Days for her canning and baking. She was the founder of the Golden Acres 4-H Club and was the General Leader for 12 years. She was actively involved in her church, taught Confirmation classes, Sunday School and was a long time member of Sarah Circle – her strong faith was evident to all who knew her. Lydia was known for her generous hospitality. Whether staying for a few days or just stopping by for a cup of coffee her caring spirit made everyone feel welcome. Lydia loved her family and was a dear friend to many. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. A funeral service was held on Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. from St. Olaf Lutheran Church with Reverend Greg Kiel officiating. A eulogy was given by granddaughter Tara Tanner and the pallbearers were Daryl Reimer, Jeremy Reimer, Barclay Tanner, Bill Eichorst, David Raynard and Lyle Rempel. The interment took place at Hillcrest Cemetery, Swift Current, SK. Donations may be made to the St. Olaf Lutheran Church Building Fund in memory of Lydia.
