(nee Tedrick) – Age 89
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved mom, grandma, great-grandma, auntie, sister, cousin, and friend, Juanita Jean Nerada. She passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 6th at the Palliser Regional Care Centre with family close by her side. She is remembered by her three children, Dianne, Gale (Angela), and Denise Martinez (Harv); nine grandchildren, Vincent, Chantal, Shawnda, Travis (Kathy), Cindy (Rick), Jackie (Terry), Ryan, Derek and Corey; ten great-grandchildren, McKenna, Mitchell, Dawson, Carson, Jordan, Tyler, Taylor, Allison, Neasha, and Theo ; three sisters, Eleanor Montgomery (Howard), Joyce Munro, and Enid Schmidt, and brother, Bob Tedrick (Lil). She was pre-deceased by her husband, Bert, in 1999, her brothers Jim, Harry, and Gordon; sisters, Iola Whitney and Olive Swihart; and countless friends. Juanita was born on August 28, 1922 on a farm near Vanguard to Russell and Mabel Tedrick. She completed grade 12 at Vanguard School and went to normal school in Moose Jaw to obtain her teaching certificate. Her first teaching job was in Cantuar where she met the love of her life, Bert. In 1943, she married Albert Bert Nerada and together they farmed and operated Nerada Oilfield Company even after they moved to Swift Current in 1986. They enjoyed many happy years in the community of Cantuar. Mom loved working in her yard and garden and there was often a secret contest between mom and the neighbours to see who could grow the biggest tomatoes or grow the most potatoes under one plant. Her flowers brightened up the yard every spring, summer, and fall as she had quite the green thumb. She was also very active in the Cantuar Busy Bees, Success Slimettes and was a leader in the Success/Cantuar 4H Club. As the wife of a farmer, she also knew she was the right hand man too; this, all while raising three children, doing the canning, cooking, cleaning, butchering, chauffeuring, disciplining and keeping the men fed while they were trying to get the crop safely into the bins. She was a hard worker. She enjoyed her time on the farm, working in the fields, and worked very hard to keep the entire operation working smoothly. Later in life, she enjoyed doing crafts, crocheting, and collecting antiques, travelling and reading. She often said that reading was her most favorite thing because, It took me to places I could never go. Juanita shared with others that one of her fondest memories as a young adult was the day Bert stood up to my mother and said, No, Mabel, she is coming home with me now! And so became Mr. and Mrs. Albert Nerada of Cantuar, Saskatchewan. Grandma left a wonderful legacy of a large close-knit family, deep and meaningful friendships, and countless cherished memories. She will be dearly missed. A funeral service was held on Saturday, March 10, 2012 at 4:00 p.m. from the chapel of Parkside Memorial Funeral Home with Pastor Cliff Janzen officiating. A tribute was given by son-in-law Harvey Martinez and her grandson and granddaughter. The pallbearers were: Ryan Targerson, Derek Targerson, Vincent Piche`, Travis Nerada, Corey Nerada and Terry Schlamp. The interment was held at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Swift Current, Saskatchewan.
