Mr. Stanley John – On May 13, 2012 while surrounded by his family, Stanley John Gillis lost his battle to cancer at the Cypress Hills Regional Hospital at the age of 72. He was born May 23, 1939 in Ponteix, Saskatchewan. Stan is survived by his loving wife Doreen, son Larry (Dorothy) their children Lenzena (Micheal) and Kody, daughters Darlene (Norman) Krell their children Cameron, Tracy and Matthew, Valerie (Roger) Tienkamp their children Lance (Stephanie) and Bobbi, Lenzena (Darrald) Zanidean and their children Marissa and Blake, Gwen Gillis-Brown and her children Andrew (Brittany), Jacie, Dyllan and Shanna, Clara (Curtis) Penner their children Braxton and Blayne, three great grandchildren Aurelia, Skylar and Bentley, 3 sisters Elva Baker, Elaine Eger and Bernice (Tony) Panko and numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents Joseph and Lenzena Gillis, father and mother in-law Albert and Clara Vindevoghel, brothers Lawrence, Jim and Gord, sister Laura, and brother in-laws Earl Baker, Robert Eger, Dwen Vindevoghel, Bernard Vindevoghel and Glen Vindevoghel. Stan embraced the values of patience, trust, respect and laughter sharing them with all he knew. Family was important to Stan and everything he did was centered around his wife, kids, grandkids, great grandkids and his siblings. If there was anything you needed you could always count on him. He welcomed everyone into the family spreading his wings to keep all sheltered and safe. There was always room for anyone who needed it. Family gatherings were treasured each holiday throughout the year but Christmas was always his favorite. He also embraced the role of the handyman in the family. He could do anything you could think of, there was nothing he couldn’t do. Stan always enjoyed the people around him whether it was at work, a family reunion or at coffee row. When he made a friend, it was a friend for life. Friends and fun went hand in hand. Stan will be sadly missed by all who knew him but we’ll keep close through memories, family gatherings and humour. The funeral service was held on Friday, May 18, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at Christ The Redeemer Roman Catholic Church. The interment was held at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Swift Current, Saskatchewan.
