Albert Leonard, age 84 of Swift Current died peacefully at the Cypress Regional Hospital on June 5, 2012. Funeral services were held on Monday, June 11, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. from Christ The Redeemer Roman Catholic Church with Father James Owolagba officiating. Honorary pallbearers were all of Albert’s family and friends. Albert will be laid to rest at the Turner Cemetery at a later date. Albert is survived by his wife Margaret, his four sons: Leonard (Joan), Michael (Penny), Gordon (Debra), and Steven; his step-children: Denise, Dennis (Diane), Darlene (Greg), Darcy (Brenda), Dana (Lorilee), Diane (Jayson), Douglas (Cindy); grandchildren: Trevor (Crystal), Tracie (Chris), Teresa (Ric), Travis (Natasha), Stephanie (Brian Jeffery), Ryan Neustater, Robin (Nicky), Derek (Tara), Sheldon, Dustin, Dean, Stan (Michelle), Scott (Julie), Sherry, Shannon, Jordan, Jocelyn, Justin, Karson, Klarke, Kassandra, Ryan, Brittany and great-grandchildren: Courntie, Sydnie, Westyn, Van, Kora, Kyle, Karylee, Chance, Taylor, AJ, Abigail, Jayden, Maddison, Nate, Loganne and Ashure; sister-in-law Thelma; nieces and nephews: Shirley, Leslie and Diane. Albert was predeceased by his parents Leonard Monk (1939), Alfred Ashwell (1976), Ethel (Cartwright) Monk (1981), wife Audrey (1989), brother Alfred (1998), step-son Kurt Nutzhorn (1998), nephew Kenneth Monk (1982) and great-grandson Ryan Leonard Monk (2001). Albert Leonard Monk was born March 21, 1928 in Kyle (Tuberose) Saskatchewan and baptized May 27, 1928 at the North Landing School. He grew up on the homestead near Kyle SW-20-5W 3rd and attended the North Landing School. In 1939, Albert’s dad passed away leaving Ethel, Alfred and Albert to run the farm. They had a hired hand, Alfred Ashwell, who helped run the family farm, and became known as Grandpa Alf. Albert married Lois “Audrey” Potter on November 30, 1951. Together they had four sons: (Leonard, Michael, Gordon and Steven). The family lived at the farm near Kyle, at the Saskatchewan Landing, and in Swift Current. Albert was a mechanic at Larock Motors, Manning Mercury and Roy’s Toyota. Audrey passed away in 1989. Albert married Margaret Antonovitch April 3, 1994. Albert joined the Catholic Church October 09, 2001. Albert loved nature, camping, going to Cypress Hills, traveling, music, playing cards, getting together with family and talking about the Kyle area friends, and family history. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society in memory of Albert.
