Haydon Mr. Robert Henry, passed away Sunday, February 24, 2013 at Cypress Regional Hospital. He was born May 28, 1920 near Cabri, SK. He is survived by his wife, Joy Mitchell, Daughter-Sandra (Larry) Assaly of Burnaby, BC; Son-Basil (Elaine) Haydon of Cabri, SK; Grandsons-Michael (Abbie) Haydon and their children Brodie Lynn, Houston and Hudson, Adam Haydon, Thomas (Roberta) Haydon and their children Eric and Isabel; Granddaughters-Michele Assaly and son Max, Dori (Mike) O’Callaghan and sons Jacob and Cole. Step-daughters-Laura (Lonnie) Graham, Barb (Dave) Zahara – Dubnyk and their families. Ex-wife-Jean Sannes Halvorson; Nephew-Peter (Bonnie) Escobar and sons Joseph and Jonathon; Cousins-Iris(Len) Greaves of Regina and Lorna Thomson of Cabri. He was predeceased by his parents, Gilbert and Isobel Haydon, Son, Gary Haydon; and Sister-Mavis Escobar and her husband Jose Escobar of El Paso, Texas. Robert was born and raised on the Haydon Family Farm, he attended Waldensian School. His first love was flying and he trained and got his pilot’s licence in Vancouver. He flew commercially for Smith Airways for a few years along with farming with his father and uncle. Robert bought his first airplane in 1955 and flew his own plane on October 6, 2012 with his son Basil flying left seat. He enjoyed his time going to Flying Farmer Fly-ins and this love of flying has been passed along to both sons and his grandson Michael. He married Jean Sannes in 1944 and raised three children, Sandra, Gary and Basil. He also had a passion for square dancing and was the caller for his own club in the Hazlet Area. He was a proud member of the Legion and of the Masonic Lodge. He was also a staunch member of the local Co-op, Sask. Wheat Pool and the CWB. Robert was always an inventor and it didn’t matter what was purchased on the farm he would always think of ways to modify it, to make it better. Robert was pleased to receive the Century Farm Award in recognition of his father who broke the land in 1909 using oxen and the land is still being farmed by his son Basil and grandson Michael. His final love was Joy Mitchell and her family. Rob lived in their own home in Cabri until illness put him in the hospital. A Celebration of life will be held at the Cabri Senior’s Centre on Wednesday February 27, 2013 from 2 PM to 4 PM. A private family interment will take place at a later date. Arrangements were entrusted to Parkside memorial Funeral Home, Swift Current, SK.
