LYNE Mr. Russell Carl (November 7, 1945 – February 18, 2013) Russ was born at the Swift Current Union Hospital. As he grew up, he realized that school was not his forte. As soon as he could he took a job working for Union Construction. He started as a labourer but in a couple of years, they decided to send him to Tech School in Moose Jaw, where he received his Journeyman Carpenter Standing. He had always loved building things and when he was 5 years old he repaired a canoe and paddled it across the Swift Current Creek at Elmwood Park. A photographer saw him and took a picture. After interviewing his mom, the picture of Russ appeared in the Sun titled, “a 5 year old modern day Huck Finn.” Russ was also crazy about motors, his first love was motorcycles; he and Gladys spent many holidays attending the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in South Dakota. A lot of bikers said Russ was one of the few who could adjust the older Harley’s to lope perfectly. Russ fixed all types of motors and the yard usually had a couple of car engines, and two or three motorcycle and boat motors. Russ was not a sports fan, but he would go out of his way to get things set up for his nieces and nephews to have a fun time during family get togethers. Russ was a thoughtful and caring person who never hesitated to help others. Russ is survived by his wife, Gladys, daughter, Renae (Todd) Pitchko, and grandson, Carsten (apple of his eye). He is also survived by his sister, Colleen (Roger) Beaudoin, nieces Ricki Lee Beaudoin (Saskatoon), Lisa (Shane) Pollock and grand-niece, Sophie (Weyburn), and many brothers and sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Maurice and mother, Luella, and many aunts and uncles. Memorial donations may be made to the Huntington Foundation. Arrangements entrusted to Parkside Memorial Funeral Home, Swift Current. For further information or to sign the family book of condolence visit parksidefuneralhome.com.
