BASSARIS Christos (December 28, 1947 – July 1, 2013) – Chris was born in Athens, Greece in 1947 to his parents, Mixalis and Maria Bassaris. In his early 20’s after serving in the Greek Air Force, Chris worked for a year and a half on an oil tanker which travelled to places such as, Venzuela, Columbia, Florida, Halifax and the Panama Canal. He eventually came to Montreal, Canada with no immigration papers as he wasn’t’ planning on staying in Canada. However he missed his boat home and was in Canada with no English, no money, no way of leaving, and no papers. Chris’ first career in restaurants started with his first job in Canada, washing dishes at a Montreal restaurant. Chris worked in various restaurants and he was eventually granted Citizenship in 1972. He decided to move to Saskatchewan after his former boss from Montreal suggested that he come work for him in Regina. He eventually found an opportunity to work at Top Pizza in Swift Current for a Greek friend. Chris managed restaurants off and on for over 38 years. Chris was predeceased by his parents in Greece. He is survived by his Aunt and cousin and many friends in Swift Current. The funeral service was held on Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at The Lifegiving Font Greek Orthodox Church in Swift Current with Father Spyridon Vandoros officiating. The pallbearers were: Glen Wallace, Larry Jaster, Doug Heinricks, Chris Herbert, Pete Tsougrianis and John Gannitsos. The interment was held at Hillcrest Cemetery, Swift Current. Memorial donations may be made to the Dr. Noble Irwin Healthcare Foundation. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Parkside Memorial Funeral Home, Swift Current, Saskatchewan.
